I have never written a review before, but I wanted to express how special this place was to me during the 4 years I lived in Milwaukee. Truly a staple of the city. The German beer is unmatched, and that's coming from someone who spent some time in Germany. The Schwarzbier and Hefe Weiss are top tier. Their food is wonderful as well. Please keep this place alive.

My boyfriend and I have driven past this spot many times, so we finally made it a point to visit. We had a city tin so were happy to give this place a try! We both agree that it is a fun spot in MKE. We had the schnitz bitz for an appetizer (they were cooked perfectly and had great flavor) and the beer they had on tap. The bartender was super nice and attentive. The inside of the bar is super authentic and decorated with the German culture at the forefront. Outside they also offer seating on a patio. If you are looking for a good German beer or meal, definitely give this place a try!

Reliable quality delicious Fish Fry! Great value for the amount of food! Super nice staff and great service! It's a Milwaukee staple. You ask 10 people from Wisconsin where the best fish fry is you will get 10 different answers, but likely Von Trier will be one of of them.
This place was amazing! An authentic German dining experience. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was very cool- get transported to a German pub in days of old! The pork schnitzel with spaetzel was just delicious. The cheese curds too!!
Best German beer and food combo I've had in Milwaukee so far. The pork chop with smashed german potatoes and grilled cabbage was delicious.Highly recommend getting the smoked trout dip as well

Always a good time, one of the more intimate bars on North Ave when you're hanging with a group or date. Although it's a German beer bar, the cocktails are great too.
