We came here to celebrate our anniversary. What a fantastic experience! The food was delicious and came to our table at a nice pace and piping hot. Our server V was very attentive and pleasant. And thanks to Anna who made sure everything was to our liking. We look forward to returning with friends soon!
We had a great meal here. Food, drinks, and service was all superb. Recommend bringing more than a few people so you can share as many plates as possible. Standouts for us were the Anchovy, Octopus, and Short Rib. It's too bad I was in town just visiting, because I'd be there quite regularly if I could.
Really delicious food. The chicken leg confit dish was amazing, would highly recommend. Absolutely love the decor. Cocktails were wonderful. The staff was friendly. Has an approachable laid back hip vibe that I really enjoy
There were 4 of us and after we ordered the waitress said the food would be on a shared platter. She was obviously being facetious. The portions on an entree wasn't enough to feed a 4 year old. I gave a 3 star only because the food was very tasty and the cocktails were well made.
This was our first time. And it was amazing. The trout, the short ribs, the butter and sourdough, they were incredible. Just incredible. And the peanut butter pie, wow. It was top notch. And in a casual, eclectic, interesting east side space. It’s small plate style and that really works for them. Some dishes have a double portion size, which is more entree style. All in all the diplomat was easily one of the best places in the city. And certainly one to go back to, well not too much, I’m not made of money. But damn it was good.
It was delicious and the staff was wonderful. The only thing is the portions are very tiny, very very tiny. Get the fork and knife chicken. It will feed 2-3 if you order several other things. We ordered almost half the menu. Everything was wonderful though. I would say price wise is $$$$ not $$. We spent well over $400.
We had a great meal at the Diplomat. Our server was lovely, I wish I could remember her name! But I recommend the salt cod hash brown, it was amazing. Oh! And the peanut butter pie!
I usually dine at Carnevor, Eddie Martinis, Calderone club & Sandra’s on the park. I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with an award-winning chef. I thought the diplomat would be just the right place. Our apps and drinks were absolutely amazing. I had ordered the bigger New York strip steak as I always do as I am a steak lover. The steak came cold. I informed the waitress and I truly hated complaining about food. A staff member came up to my table and said “we are reheating your steak”. At this point, I said I'd pass and just ask for the check. As everyone knows between a reheated steak and asparagus that has been sitting on a plate isn’t what you want to eat at a higher end restaurant, I respectfully passed. The staff's entire attitude changed, they literally snatched up our entire table without asking us if we had been finished with our drinks or the other items at the table. I was in absolute shock at the disrespect of the staff. I love steak and every time I’m in Vegas, I make sure to go to Gordon’s Ramsey steak house in Paris and truly have no problems spending money on fine dining, but I was treated like I couldn’t afford a drink in this place. This is the first time I felt so embarrassed in my life. I won’t be back ever period and I’m still in shock at the disrespect of the staff. The worst part is, the restaurant called me at 10:30PM and tried to apologize but said “we tried to make it right but you didn’t seem to want to talk”. Once again, complete disgusting disrespect to a customer. All I did was say I would pass on the meal and ask for my check as the staff aggressively cleared the table and embarrassed me and my spouse in front of the entire restaurant. The waitress did apologize for the experience and said “we are short-staffed and everyone is stressed”. I understand this and I eat at higher end restaurants that are short-staffed, but that is no excuse for embarrassing your customers. This was honestly the worst dining experience of my life.
The Diplomat is the kind of restaurant with vibes of being cool, kitschy, hip, and retro tucked away into the folds of Milwaukee's lower east side / Brady Street area. Our servers were on par, and we even got to meet Anna, the co-owner/ wife of head chef / and all around guru. She was great and spent time asking us questions about how we were and even recalling a phone conversation from twi years ago about a gift card! The food was great. We really enjoyed the fried mushrooms and my wife would highly, highly recommend the beet toast. Even I ate a few bites and I am not a fan of beets. The trout with lentils was our favorite dish of the night, by far. So much flavor packed into every bite! Our dessert was the meir lemon caramel cake, which to me was a bit off... definitely could have done with stronger lemon flavors coming through and the caramel could have been stronger too, although I did enjoy the lightness of the cake itself. Overall, highly recommend this restaurant if your in the Milwaukee area!
Had a great experience with my husband. I would recommend the trout and the diplomac burger- so good. Make sure to end with dessert and coffee steeped right at the table
