The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was unique and authentic feeling. We had a great experience at China Gourmet. We ordered the Chef Chow Fun and Singapore Noodles, and were very impressed. The meal was delicious. The location was right downtown, within walking distance of our hotel at the Residence Inn. I would highly recommend this dining experience.
Neat and considerate packaging for delivery. Good vegetable egg rolls. Sesame Tofu had decent flavor, texture was okay.
The owner is friendly and the decor is uniquely charming in a old post-prime way. The food was freshly prepared but definitely authentic only as American Chinese food. The white rice was cooked with too much water for my liking. Also was very expensive for the amount and quality of food served.
We went to the China Gourmet after a performance at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Easy to make reservations. Dismayed at the clutter when we entered the restaurant. It looked like they were rearranging things to get ready for a remodeling. Not very good atmosphere. Host took our drink orders immediately and we got them in a timely fashion. Took awhile for the waiter to get around to us as he was busy seating other patrons. We finally ordered. I got an Empress Shrimp Plate because I enjoy that dish so much for $7.95 at Wong's Wok down on 27th Street. This one was $21.95 so I had high expectations. I allow doubling the price of suburban restaurants for the same dish downtown. That's expected. But for triple the price I expect much more. Did not get it. Fewer shrimp than expected, bland, tasteless breading on the shrimp and a so-so dip for them. My wife tried one and said "I know you were looking forward to this all day. You must be so disappointed?" I was. AND they charged an extra $2 to get fried rice. I have never been able to stand the sticky tasteless white rice that usually comes with American Chinese restaurant food so I particularly appreciate that the Empress Plate at Wong' Wok comes with fried rice automatically (for no extra charge). While I am enduring this mediocre fare, my dinner companions (who insisted we not wait on them being served) waited for their food to be brought. We alerted no less than three restaurant employees that something was amiss. Finally, very tarty, their food was delivered. I don't know haw it was because by now the whole table was in a silent funk. To say we will never return is an understatement. Zero rating.
Very friendly staff, fast service, and food are good. Love my food spicy
Well,I am visiting Milwaukee for the first time, and checked out the Chinese restaurants on Trip Advisor.Staying close to this one,we decided to go for it...oh dear...what a mistake! We entered the scruffy and cluttered establishment, and were ushered to a lousy table, despite the fact the restaurant was empty..too late to back out we thought. The calendar on the wall next to us showed the date of November 2017...clearly a memorable date for the owner, which we figured out was perhaps the last time anyone had mistakenly walked through their doors. I ordered the spare ribs, which arrived luke-warm with patchy heat, and were clearly microwaved. My friend ordered the spring rolls, which in fairness,he declared were OK....though obviously frozen, and not restaurant-made on site. For the main,I chose the sweet and sour chicken..again straight out of the freezer, but admittedly hot.The fried rice was dark in colour...the fat in which it was cooked way beyond its changing time. The sauce was tepid.Overall ,nonsense sadly. My friend was looking forward to the half duck with hoi sin sauce and pancakes,oh dear, what a let-down.The pancakes had never seen Chinese pancakes in their lives, but were instead tortilla wraps....unreal! The duck was declared just edible, and at $24.95 a complete and utter rip-off. With three beers, the bill came to a whopping $75.....a total waste of money for the food that we had had. The overall experience was diabolical to say the least, and quite how or why this restaurant choses to stay open,I have no idea. Avoid at all cost is my recommendation...ignore my words at the peril of your appetite and wallet.
Ordered this on Uber eats and received the entirely wrong then. When I called to try to come to a resolution the person I talked to was extremely rude saying we didn’t order what we ordered (I have the Uber eats receipt to prove what I ordered??). Horrendous customer service
I used to have their lunch buffet when I worked downtown pre covid, I found every experience to be fun and filling with many options to choose from. I recently door dashed them and was impressed again, reminded of how great the food tastes, only issue we had was not buying more.
Great Chinese food and one of the better restaurant options in the area if you don't want bar food.
Food was delivered hot but there was no rice with sweet and sour chicken. Also no fortune cookies
