The Old Fashioned is clearly a very popular restaurant in Madison. It gives the impression of being an old college hangout with a menu that reflects that theme with sandwiches like grilled cheese, tuna salad, etc. Situated on the square facing the capital it is actually only about 20 years old. It is best known and named for the drink, the old fashion. Here it is made with brandy-- sweet and very tasty. Huge selection of beers, big menu, good reasonably priced food and good service.
Local gem! Great drinks and food, especially if you like cheese-based dishes. Beer cheese soup is amazing.Not allergy-friendly--all shared fryers.
Wow! The food is excellent. Good sized portions and made to perfection. The staff is great, very friendly. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The decor is decorated with old pictures and old beer signs. I highly recommend dining here.
A huge beer selection with beers from all around Wisconsin, as are many (if not all?) of the liquors - so great drinks, too. We shared a steak sandwich that was delicious. The only downside was how terribly loud it was. It was difficult to have a conversation over the raucus noise.
Awesome place! I'm from Georgia so we were checking out some local fare. I had the Green Bay chili. It comes served over noodles. Don't know if thats a northern thing or exclusive to this restaurant but it was FANTASTIC!
The walleye fish fry carryout order comes with only one piece of fish for $21+ what a ripoff! I've eaten many Madison fish fries and have never been short changed like this! A word of warning to others...
Had dinner Tuesday evening and loved the Applejack old fashioneds! My burger was well-cooked and the service was excellent. Was busy for a weekday, but worth it.
The cheese curds are some of the best fried cheese I've ever had. The waitstaff are efficient if only a little too busy or in a hurry to clear out customers for closing but that's understandable. Is near the majestic Capitol building.
