I came in with my son on a whim for an early dinner and couldn't have been happier. It's a small unassuming venue. We sat up at the bar and the chef made us a delicious appetizer off the menu by surprise. We only had time for a roll but we will definitely be back.
I ordered two sushi rolls for takeout. Both rolls contained tempura shrimp and it was done perfectly. The shrimp were still juicy in the middle which is a rare find for sushi restaurants in Madison.
The sushi was incredibly fresh compared to other restaurants in town. It was very busy, but staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and appreciated. Delicious sashimi and drinks!
Very high quality sushi. Very fresh. They have the classic sushi and nigiri with just fish and rice, which I appreciate. But they also offer the innovative rolls. Very extensive menu! And everything is always incredibly fresh. The flavors are great, not overpowering. They prepare it in traditional style. Service is super friendly. I'm thankful they are open all days of the week (so many restaurants are closed on Sundays/Mondays), this place is my go-to.Highly recommend. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.
I tried this place for the first time on a whim and I can definitely say as a second time repeated customer (and many more to come) I have not been let down. The hand rolls are the best and I am so happy they offer it. I was thoroughly pleased with the entirety of my order. Definitely recommend!
Had a great meal and a cold bottle of Chardonnay with my wife. Enjoyed great service and conversation with Donnie (server) and Leo (sushi chef). Get the Yummy and Puppy Love rolls for sure!!
After telling someone how disappointed I was with the sushi at a local restaurant in Monona, she recommended Takarajima. It's not too far, so I decided to try their food. I was pleasantly surprised to find an elegant and tastefully designed restaurant worthy of being my go-to sushi joint on a date night. I ordered to go, but next time I will dine inside and enjoy their cool and modern ambience. The sushi was exquisite. I've had fresh sushi in So Calif, and Albuquerque. (Yes, New Mexico loves their sushi.) And the sushi at Takarajima rivals the best I've had anywhere else. Fresh and very tasty. If you like sushi, do yourself a favor and visit this local gem of an eatery. You will not be sorry.
This place has great sushi. I admit the first time we went we had a little skepticism, but don't let the humble facade fool you - every roll we've tried has been amazing. Particularly recommend the puppy love.
Yum! Never had a bad roll here.Full Moon, summit and Golden Tuna!
Went here last week. The sushi was GREAT. I got a spicy California roll and futo roll and the Japanese pickled vegetables. These were all very good and a good value for what you pay. I would return here.
