Above average sushi for Madison. The fish didn't taste very fresh and the rice was mushy and too wet. Kind of tasted like sushi you can find at an Asian grocery store in California. And as someone else said, they stuff their rolls and nigiris with way too much rice. But service was decent and the ambience was nice. They have a pretty decent selection but no dessert. When I went on a weeknight, the place was pretty busy so maybe get a reservation before you go on a weekend or a Friday.
I’ve been to Muramoto many times. I especially love their sushi combos - it’s a fair deal! The quality of the sushi, however, is variable. Despite that, the price remains the same. Recently, I’ve felt that I’ve overpaid for the quality of their sushi - specifically, the fish (all of it).I’ll definitely be coming back for the sushi combos but I wouldn’t expect this place to knock your socks off.
Muramoto at Hilldale hits the right notes every single time. Went back there after a long time and it did not disappoint. The sushi is always fresh and taste amazing. We had the Fire and Dragon roll and both were delicious. The Miso Black Cod with bok choy was melting in the mouth good. I am going to go back again soon just to have the cod. The seaweed salad was excellent and so was the miso soup. Overall once again a great dining experience. Muramoto is one of the best restaurants in Hilldale, check it out today.
Delicious sushi! I'm not a huge fan of nori, but the seaweed here has a very mild flavor. Really good vegetable tempura roll. The lychee martini was fantastic.
great sushi!! love the rolls they offer and always fresh
The food here was very good and we had excellent service on our visit. One thing that was not too pleasant though was that our table was near the bathrooms and there was a terrible smell coming from that area. (Like a sewer smell). I don't know if I will go back for that reason unless that gets fixed!
Goods: Everyone was very friendly, and selection was decent, but not the best in town. No Uni. Surprisingly price wasn't that expensive. Nice atmosphere and great drink selection.Bads: Might be good enough if you haven't had good sushi before. The rice to fish ratio was ridiculous. I take my sushi very seriously and was super disappointed. Way too much rice on every rolls, which is opposite of a good sushi/roll. It's hard to taste the fish when it's overwhelming with rice. Super disappointed.
The best sushi in Madison. I’ve rarely had better. Enjoyable location in the Hilldale shopping center. Fresh ginger ale is lovely! Only complaint is the seating is not very comfortable. Otherwise great.
planned to have dinner there earlier in thr week and was surprised and disappointed to see that they closed for several days due to covid. we managed to get there before the lunch rush and our food came pretty quick. miso soup was packed with tofu and greens and just the perfect temp. the fried calamari appetizer was hot, fresh out the fryer and a perfect crisp with a delicious dipping sauce. there was plenty of pickled ginger for our order of rolls and sashimi was delicious. service was great! our kids can be a bit excited in a new environment but our waitress was very kind and attentive. thanks for reopening!
