We were struggling to find a late night (quality, non-fried bar food) food option and had been craving a good bowel of ramen for weeks. Morris Ramen was excellent, good, and a bit of a bummer (in that moment). Bummer: We ordered extra toppings for our Morris Ramen and the chashu (pork belly) never made it. Disappointing and by the time we realized it, they were already closed. So we left a message and never heard back.**(see below) Good: The 100% Japanese national complained the broth was a bit too greasy for her liking--but still inhaled the entire bowl. Excellent: The half-Japanese eater (and consumer of hundreds, if not thousands of bowls of ramen in Japan), was very happy with the quality of the ramen, despite agreeing the broth was slightly greasy. We appreciated how the noodles and toppings were separate of the broth until we were ready to combine them (our mistake--we should've heated the broth 30 seconds in the microwave before pouring. That might've helped the "grease" factor). The toppings, while limited in choice, covered all the typical toppings--and everything was great quality. Customer Service: This is where I tell you I made a mistake--AND they made a mistake--and Morris Ramen came through phenomenally on both. First, when I ordered online, we just snuck in before they closed-or so we thought. Somehow, while flipping back and forth on the screens, the order was made for the following night, which did our rumbling tummies no good. A phone call and quick check with the kitchen (they just seated a large group of 6 or 8, just before close) and they said no problem, we could switch our order. Morris Ramen win #1. **Second, as noted above, our extra chashu was missing from the order. A voice message was left after hours, and 5.5 weeks later, they called me to apologize and rectify the mistake. So while I might suggest they check their voicemail more often :-) they absolutely followed up, owned the error, and corrected it. Morris Ramen win #2. Even if it weren't for the fantastic food, the nostalgia and enjoyment of being transported back to Japan-even if only for the length of eating an excellent bowl of ramen, the customer service would bring us back. We're looking forward to our next meal. Arigatou, Morris-san!
Great food but hard to find. Took us a few times walking around to find this place. I got the miso ramen which was delicious and popular on the menu. I will definitely be back!
Really great ramen. The pork was very tasty. I always get an extra egg with my ramen.
The staff here is really nice and the Morris Ramen was amazing! Their cocktails are also pretty awesome.
Oh man. Hands down the best ramen I have found outside of California. 10/10 would eat this everyday.
The ramen here was good but I personally wasn’t a fan because they leave the fat(?) in the broth and overall it just left a weird aftertaste for me. The donburi and chicken wings were good though!
This place was amazing. Absolutely everything we had from water, to buns to ramen was absolutely perfect and satisfying. The staff was super welcoming and kind.
Despite the numerous glowing recommendations from friends, I did not go here the years that I was a resident. Being back in town for the holidays though, the aforementioned friends wanted to meet here for a meal. The restaurant has a great vibe. You enter through an understated entrance and step into a beautiful, aromatic establishment. Our group of six was seated at the one table near the entrance, with the rest of the seating being at the bar or at the long bench and tables along the wall. You order at the counter and take a number for your food to be brought to you.Their menu offers a range of buns, ramen and donburi, as well as an extensive drink menu. My wife enjoyed her sake and I was happily surprised with the mule I ordered. As for the food, the ramen was good but it turns out I’m not super into ramen. Can’t hold that against the restaurant as I would have loved some donburi. It was a really wonderful meal and the host went above and beyond to take our photo. They stood on a bench and held the phone real high.
Easily the best ramen in Madison. That's a hill I'm willing to die on.Reminds me of the streetfood simple delicious quality vibes when I lived in Hokkaido as a youth. That's a culinary high I've been chasing for a while. The Morris House Ramen and a bottle of kurasawa Nigori definitely scratches that itch better than any other ramen joint I've come across outside of Japan.
BEST RAMEN IN MADISON hands down. The banh mi is like eating a hug and unconditional love. You can also just buy the broth and add it to your own soups at home and/or just drink the broth (I love to do this when I feel a little under the weather. It's medicinal). The buns and bowls are wonderful too.
