Was thrilled to find they have a nice outdoor seating area -- some tables with shade and some without -- and they are dog friendly. The summer vibes outside are great, with a volleyball court in the parking lot behind, live music from the venue next door, and lots of other happy folks sitting out to enjoy food and drink. My family really enjoyed their classic German food, and I was impressed by the friendly, kind waitress.

We came to Essen Haus because my husband's late uncle wrote a letter to a friend back in 2003 about how amazing his experience was. This letter was brought to my husband's attention about a month ago and at that moment we knew we had to try it. Annalysa (our server) was so excited to hear our story and really made our visit extra special. I highly recommend spending an evening experiencing Essen Haus!
Great atmosphere, food outstanding. Beer was amazing...took me back to my visits to Germany. Our server Rachel was absolutely the best, ask for her. Very personalized service and great recommendations. She was spot on with beer suggestions. A must visit.
This is NOT a cookie-cutter bar experience. Go in with an open-mind and an open-heart. All ages....races....backgrounds....people enjoying a slice of history and culture, like only Madison can dish it! The music, the costumes, the mugs hanging from the ceiling above the bar...wooden barrels in the parking lot. If it's a nice day, we'll be havin' live music and food and beer there....in the lot...
We had a wonderful time eating and shopping here. We are from the buffet and everything was delicious. Our service was very good. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, we sat at a table that was inside of a hotel and buggy. There is a bakery with lots of choices of foods to take home. The gift shop has lots of lovely items, stationary, jewelry, art Knick-knacks, children’s toys, home decor and kitchen items.
Wish I could do zero stars.To call this place "authentic german" or even a resteraunt is a joke. Their only attraction is the boots of beer and frankly they should not be serving food. Appetizer came out cold and partially frozen- had to approach hostess as waiter never returned. Frozen breadsticks blamed on "bad batch" rather than too little time in microwave. Cold breadsticks were replaced with another set of cold breadsticks, rather than taken off bill. Food was a joke. $20 plates for dishes that clearly are sold frozen in bulk. Zero flavor to any of the food, and it wasn't even hot. Every food item was varying degrees of lukewarm. Food was nothing like menu described. Service was poor, waiter made a joke about our food being cold, which felt in poor taste- since we are the ones paying for it. Looking at the reviews it becomes clear that they are all written by individuals drunk off of the beer. If you're going to pay $20 for an entree- go somewhere else. I wouldn't be shocked if I saw this place on bar rescue. Overall bad experience- and angry that we had to pay so much for it.
A group of us were celebrating a birthday here. Fun atmosphere! All of the food was delicious (especially the Jagerschnitzel). Our server was so friendly. Will definitely go back here!
