Good place to stay for campus visits. We always have a good time in Madison. Have now stayed here twice. However, this hotel is still a university-run facility, so don't expect a 5-star hotel. Pros: Reasonably priced for the location (but will skyrocket for events). Parking under Union South is included during your stay. Fridge and microwave in each room. About as close as you can get to Camp Randall if you are here for a football game. Loved the Tommy Bahama toiletries. Front desk staff was excellent. Guest floors and parking have secured access. Cons: The shower drain was partially clogged when we arrived and would have flooded the floor had we not been careful (there is no door or other closure for the shower). The drain also emitted a foul smell after showers. We stayed shortly after the hotel re-opened in June, so perhaps the necessary maintenance to get things up to par had not been completed? Room was also quite dusty. Several towels came with human hair on them (not ours). Fitness room, which was closed for most of our stay (but apparently staff thought it had been opened) is small, with a treadmill, an elliptical, and a set of dumbbells up to 25 lbs. When we visited, there was no bench in the fitness room for use with the weights. Since this is a university property, you are stuck with "Tork" brand quarter-ply toilet paper. Had to hold the handle down for a while to get toilet to flush. The overall design is nice, but as a Badger, I wish they would have used a bright cardinal red (and made the decor brighter and more fun and uplifting) rather than subdued, and perhaps added other "Badger" design inspiration. Overall good hotel, but could be better.
This is the ice cream shop in union south. These 2 wonderful employees served us. The scoop sizes are LARGE:) They had a couple very unique flavors. Definitely a place to visit often!
We stayed for one night when visiting our grandson. It was a very enjoyable experience. We had reservation at the Memorial Union but could get to the hotel because the streets were closed for the Ironman race. Union south was very accomodating in changing the reservation. The desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was nicely outfitted and had a view of Camp Randall stadium. We will definitely stay here again and recommend it anyone visiting the University.
We stayed at the Union for our campus tour and visit. It is in a great location that provides parking - a real bonus. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely outfitted. Everyone who works there is very helpful. A really pleasant place to stay while on campus.

I was helping with a move, and needed a place for us to stay for that one day when you're homeless in between apartments. I found the last room at the Wisconsin Union Hotel, which is located on the 4th and 5th floors of Union South. The hotel is just a 10-min walk from the apartment....and just about everything else. This hotel is very clean, quiet, well-decorated and well-priced -- especially with a member/studentID discount and only a very tiny assessment fee--nothing like the usual hotel fees and taxes. The hotel is very conveniently located to all that Union South has to offer and to the UW-campus. Front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms were well-decorated (hotel pictures are very accurate). Convenient, attached and free parking is included (when available); enter off Dayton street for a round-about where you can park while you check-in. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. When I do, I would ask for a room on the south side of the hotel. I was in 529, which is near the end of the hall, shares a wall with the fitness center (didn't hear anything at all) and looks out over Campus Drive/Johnson Street. Street noise was apparent, as was the train that passes in front of the building (once when I was there, near 4pm; nothing at night) that is obligated to sound its horn at the nearby intersections.
