We came with low expectations because all other Capitol restaurants had a long wait time except this one. We were able to be seated outside within 5 minutes. Interior decor and cleanliness could use some work. Our server was amazing! Margarita was good but a little too sweet. Food was better than we expected. Definitely pay the $2 for the chips and salsa. It’s worth it! The soy chorizo vegan tacos were pretty good but missing the crunch of the fried potatoes. Also - staff should be trained that if someone orders the one vegan taco option that they DON’T want the pinto beans that contain animal fat. Always offer them black beans instead. Churros were ok, not worth the price and for some reason took 20 minutes to make? Server said a cook left and the ticket got missed and they were removed from our bill fortunately. I would come back on another spontaneous night out without a reservation.

Edit: Updated review to reflect recent experiences, shame this place used to be a good spot for a quick lunch.Awful service, took 90 minutes to receive food for a party of 8 during a time when there were zero people in the restaurant. Management is clearly incompetent and unwilling to pay living wages for employees, since clearly there was a shortage. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere, perhaps Canteen which is significantly better anyways.

I’ve worked in food service for 15 years and I’ve never seen service like this, as a server or as a customer. And looking through the other reviews, it makes me think this is a frequent experience. We got there and were told there’s a 20 minute wait, but there were only about 10 tables already sat, and 3 or 4 servers. So, while we waited, we sat at the bar but it took over 10 minutes to be acknowledged by the bartender despite the bar also being basically empty. We finally got our table and after a few minutes our server takes our order. That’s the last she even glanced towards our table for 40 minutes (we couldn’t even get her attention when she went to another table 4 times, while ignoring her two tables in the corner). After those 40 minutes, she comes over and finally tells me they don’t have the tacos I wanted, but doesn’t even apologize, just that she had meant to tell me a long time before that. That’s also the moment that we’re finally able to ask about the chips and salsa we ordered that never came. The food came out exactly an hour after we ordered. Let me emphasize that the restaurant is still pretty empty at this point and our table only ordered 6 tacos total. In total, we spent more than an hour and a half for a meal that should’ve been maybe 40 minutes. Finally, the food has changed quite a bit. I used to order delivery from here in the early months of the pandemic, but the food was nothing like how I remember. The tortilla was rubbery, there was barely any chicken and way too much red cabbage. My first and last time dining in here.Ways to improve:-have servers introduce themselves by name-check on tables more frequently, even if it’s the quick “you doing okay over here?” without even stopping-if something is going to take significantly longer than expected, communicate that to the customer

The place is too loud for casual table talk and the waiting staff are slow and distracted. We waited at least 10 minutes to be asked about drinks and appetizers, which came piece by piece leaving most of the table waiting. It took about an hour after that for our main courses to arrive. The dishes were incredibly mediocre and we were bored and finished with the atmosphere long before anyone had cleared their plate.I would recommend taking your friends and family elsewhere. At least until the staff here have a serious meeting about efficiency and service.

Early evening about 6:00 weekday night seated promptly but soon restaurant was full. Service was good. Began with avocado appetizer. Very tasty and fresh but this was the only good item we had. Tacos were average and shrimp salad was disappointing. Tacos were not hot as was the side of beans and rice. Draft dos equis beer was not served in a mug but rather a tall narrow glass.

Ok this is my new favorite taco place in Madison! Located on the square with a perfect view of the Capitol. Love the friendly vibe of this place. We went in on a Sunday night and were promptly seated. Chips and salsa arrived quickly and each of the three kinds of salsa were soooo good!!! I couldn’t stop eating finally I had to move the bowls away from me. Love the options on the menu, I like that they have so many vegetarian options. They also have a nice selection of margaritas and they also make virgin margaritas. I had the mango margarita (virgin) and it was so refreshing. In the apps we ordered the quesadilla (spicy pollo) and los tres amigos. All three dips, queso fundido, black bean and guac were amazing. Even the quesadilla was so tasty. We then ordered the shrimp bowl, spicy pollo bowl, tostada salad , mix & match tacos. The tacos were splendid. The Korean inspired beef taco , zihuatanejo shrimp taco, and tempura shishito tacos are a must try. I love that that the mix and match tacos come with rice and beans. Everything we ordered tasted incredible. Great food, service, and location . Check it out!!

This place has so much potential! Food? Drinks? BOTH incredible! Our experience last night, however, was not. In fact I’ll go as far as saying terrible. We arrived at 830pm. The lovely, bubbly hostess said it would be 20 minutes for a table. The bar seating looked pretty sparse so we asked if we could order food in addition to our drinks, the hostess assured us that the bar was “full service.”After seating ourselves, it took Alex L, our bartender, 15 minutes to acknowledge us as we watched him walk around and assist other patrons that had arrived to the bar after we did. We were left to grab menus from departed guests. from When he finally approached us, (clearly annoyed), he lead with “just so you know we are no longer serving food at the bar.” I explained to him that we were assured by the hostess prior to seating that the bar was indeed full service up until closing time, he replied “I’ll be right back, I’m going to have a talk with her.” Although irritated upon return, he did put on his best smile an attempt to seem happy to be of service and said “I guess we ARE serving food…” He finally took our drink & food orders, returning 15 minutes or so later to deliver our beverages. We had ordered Los Tres Amigos as an appetizer (chips and 3 dips) and he failed to bring those out. When asked about the appetizer Alex replied that he had forgotten them and returned promptly with the appetizer and one small cereal size bowl of chips to share amongst 4 people indicating “if you need more chips, let me know,” and he was gone in a flash. The kitchen staff delivered 3 of our 4 meals. We had to ask the very nice woman dropping off our entrees for extra chips and silverware as the bartender failed to return and check on us. Alex our bartender, later slid a blue tin cup down the bar containing forks and napkins then disappeared to serve the EIGHT of his personal friends of his which came in to see him. …And that was the last time we’d hear from him until he delivered our check.Luckily, our hostess was at the bar and available to check on the 4th meal that had not been delivered (about 10 minutes after the delivery of our other entrees). She was wonderful, prompt, and genuinely happy to help! When Alex delivered our check he asked if we needed anything else. We politely asked for a to-go box and, as expected, he never returned. Total experience: a little over 2 hours with an impatient 8 year old in tow.He was fully engaged, attentive, & serving to his eight personal friends, showering them with drinks and appetizers, that he completely ignored us. I overheard him say to his company “I’m just trying to get out of here as quick as I can.”I want to give this place a 5 star review because the food and beverages are beyond worthy, however this last experience has me wanting to leave 0 stars based on service alone! I was a waitress in college and have tons of respect and appreciation for people in the service industry. I always tip 20% and beyond for exceptional service in addition to being understanding of responsibilities, staffing, and so fourth.Sadly, last night was a let down, as this is my favorite place to eat while I’m in town visiting my daughter in college.

Friendly staff. Lots of options for vegetarians. We tried all 4 of the veggie tacos. My favorite was the tempura shishito and the soy chorizo. The plantain taco although good was a little too sweet for my taste and the black bean taco lacked flavor. The horchata was really good though. Avoid the rice and beans since they were very underwhelming. Loved the ambiance.

Taking a walk around the square, stopped in on a whim. We weren't disappointed. I had a burrito with carnitas and tomatillo salsa. It was quite good, as were the chips and dips. Friendly service. Prices in line with the locations. Would definitely return.

The tacos were like the La Croix of tacos. The descriptions made them sound so flavorful but they ended up being dry and bland. I say this with the best of intentions because I wanted those tacos to be good. Also the Mexican rice had peas in it??? Was also very bland, and the beans were dry as the Sahara desert. The salsa however was excellent, same with the wait staff. Review would have been 1 star if the salsa hadn't been so damn good.
