The food was fantastic. For a family of four, we did have the donuts add for $7.95 it was $74.00 without tip. So expect to pay a little more.
Great Family restaurant!! So neat to be right on the edge of the airport. We got to see a few planes land and take off while we were eating. Great breakfast, bacon, eggs, potatoes and toast. Definitely recommend trying this place!
We were there on Sunday so we expected it to be busy. We were seated in about 15 to 20 minutes. Waitress was prompt with coffee and took our drink orders. She came back in a reasonable amount of time band took our order. Food was good and the waitress attentive. Loved watching the planes.
Good food, friendly & helpful servers, unique atmosphere. My server, Kylee was very pleasant and gave good care & knowledgeable recommendations for my first time visiting, but still gave me plenty of time to choose what I wanted from their recently updated menu, which had so many great options. I chose the recommended Bessie's Stack, a donut (which is actually a shareable cup of maple cinnamon bites with a cream cheese dip) and a spiked orange cream milkshake for dessert. The Bessie's Stack was served fresh and hot, and it tasted good. The pico de gallo offered refreshing notes from the tomato and onion and a little kick now and then from the peppers...just enough to add to the overall meal. The donut bites were airy and warm and delicious. The cream cheese dipping sauce was not too thick but not real runny either. I felt it was just right and tasted good too. The milkshake didn't seem to have much orange flavor until the very end of the drink, which seemed to be just the whipped cream topping. My taste buds sometimes can be bad at detecting mild flavoring though so maybe I will give that a try next time but I think I will try a mimosa or a malt just to try something else. Overall, I greatly enjoyed the experience. The service was great, the food was delicious, the planes were cool, and the establishment was very clean. I felt the price was fair for the fresh tasting meal, served pretty quickly by a friendly, knowledgeable, non-pushy server, and a unique view out the windows. I will definitely go back soon.
We have eaten at Bessie’s many times, We pick up clients that are flying in for business. Today, the service was horrible and it was 1:00 pm, the lunch crowd had cleared out. I was mostly bothered by the cook screaming to the top of her lungs when an order was up. Really? Many years (at least 20) they used a number or bell to indicated an order was up, they still have them! Now, I’ve been in the hospitality business for over 30 years and only have I ever been in a truckstop when I have heard that screaming. People around us were commenting when the cook was screaming “Ali, order up”! At one point one of the men next to us screamed “Alli doesn’t work here anymore”! This was our “go to” business place for lunch, but it was very difficult to conduct business today and that’s unfortunate. It felt like a truckstop. No refills on drinks including water, our dishes were never removed from in front of us while we were there almost 25 minutes after we were done eating.
Loved the atmosphere of the diner. The food was good. The people that worked there were all very polite and helpful. I felt the price for what we had was a little high. Paid $14 for 3 half pieces of bread made into French toast. Not extra thick, just standard sandwich bread. I think the usual order at any other restaurant would be three full pieces of bread or two very thick pieces like Texas toast with a side of very thin bacon. That being said, I checked out the orders other people had and biscuit and gravy dishes were heaped supper high and plentiful, wraps were thick with fillings, burgers were great. Not sure why French toast is the so low on the quantity when it's one of the cheapest to make. I will definitely go back, I just won't get French toast again. I like to leave a restaurant not feeling hungry. ?
Had a Reuben, loaded potato soup, dinner salad, coffee, all great! Beautiful day, beautiful view of the airfield with plenty of activity. About 2/3 full of dining guests. Parking is quite far from the door, but worth the stroll.
Always a great experience! One of our favorite places for brunch. Kids love to get to watch the plans land and take off and the food and service is always ? exceptional. Had to go with the egg Benedict with a side of sausage gravy / biscuits - make sure to get extra toast for all the hollandaise sauce hah
Amazing atmosphere, love watching the planes take off. Food is excellent and the staff is wonderful!
Arrived on a Saturday while visiting area. Walked in around noon. Busy with a wait. Asked about bar seating since I was alone. Short story..she was rude and abrupt. Surprised me so I inquired again. Even more abrupt. I left and found a good place near Beloit. Disappointed but not necessarily surprised.
