We got lucky and stumbled upon this jewel while on a road trip! This is a MUST stop for anyone passing through Morgantown. EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious! The meat is slow cooked and melt-in-your mouth tender. All the sauces are family recipes and made from scratch in house. The mac&cheese was creamy and flavorful! The fries were perfectly crispy and delightfully seasoned. The staff was very friendly and helpful- you can tell they love the place and enjoy being there. And to top it’s all off, it’s currently a BYOB establishment, so you can enjoy your favorite brew while chowing down on some great BBQ!For those of you looking at the photo - we were starving and dug in before we could get a good pic. Sorry!
I had the 3 meat platter and the food was lukewarm at best. The ribs were super tough, the chicken was drier than the Sierra desert, and the pulled pork was just inedible. Now the reason for a second star is the owner did replace the ribs but they were still tough. I don't know if it is the Kansas city style smoking or if it's just because I've been spoiled by Texas bbq.
Some of the best BBQ I've had from a restaurant in years. Most places are afraid of offending anyone with seasoning but not Woodburn the ribs were delicious and had a good spice bite with them pared with some of that KC Sweet sauce it was some of the best ribs I've had! The sides were warm and delicious as well. The staff were super friendly and welcoming! The told me the location has been open for only a couple months but walking through the building I can tell you there are some big things to come from this place. It has a full stage even! There are a couple outside patio areas that would be good to set up a little mini bar and some adult oriented games perhaps. I'm from Baltimore and from now on when I come to Morgantown WV. this will always be my food destination! Thank you all again for suck good food and friendly service. If I could give you 10 stars you would get 12 easily lol!
Atmosphere is nice. There was also a nice smoke aroma as soon as we walked in. The presentation on the silver trays was fitting. The reason for 2 stars is because the food was served less than lukewarm, the mac and cheese and baked beans were so dry. I flat out didn't like the cole slaw flavor. The beef sausage and brisket had great taste and the brisket was tender. Their sauces were ok but not great. However the peach habanero was my favorite. They need to work on serving food hot and not less than lukewarm.
It's been a while since I've had BBQ, so I stopped in. This place certainly satisfied that craving! I grabbed the 2 meat plate, which came with bread and 2 sides and it was quite a bit of food. The food was tasty, sauces were delicious, and the service was very quick and helpful as it was my first time. I look forward to them adding drinks and expanding the space, whoch already provides that small town bbq feel. I can definitely see myself coming back and bringing out of town guests. :)
The building was neat and the service was great. However, the food was subpar. I ordered the ribs and they were done too well on the outside, making them hard to bite into. The potato salad potatoes weren't cooked enough and so the salad was dry as a result. The pulled pork sandwich was dry and needed lots of sauce to be palatable. On the good side the fries were great as well as the brisket chilli.
I’m amazed at these positive reviews, I’ve eaten better meals in the county jail! Absolutely no joke if I were Tom Hanks in castaway, after being stranded on that island for four years an this sad excuse of bbq was my first meal, I’d pass! Cold pulled pork riddled with nothing but fat, potatoe salad was like they didn’t even bother boiling the potatoes to make them soft, baked beans weren’t terrible, but it’s pretty hard to mess up baked beans, oh an the random pickles tasted like Copenhagen snuff. The Lady taking our orders seems like she’s ingested one too many muscle relaxers an I’m not quite sure she even knew she was at work. A co worker of mine kindly asked for salt, an received what I can describe as a “fry boat” of dispersed loose salt lol like who doesn’t have salt packets/shakers! I’m all for supporting small business’s but folks save you’re money, it’s sad truly sad excuse of a restaurant & a disgrace to BBQ. Although this is a negative review, I can rest assure you right across the road, ruby tuesdays have some delicious ribs
Hubby and I were excited to see Woodburn Shanks open again after being gone for a few years. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. Neither of our meals were served hot, especially the sides. My husbands ribs were tough & dry and my brisket had hardly any flavor other than smoke.. no seasoning at all. They have several sauces to choose from, and the peach habanero is very good.
I am not a peaky eater, and barely write bad reviews about restaurants. However, this restaurant is the worst. Avoid it at all costs. We were a party of 9 and non of us was able to eat the food. We ordered brisket, chicken wings and fries. Very low quality. The name of the restaurant has changed to ‘sweet bbq smoke’
It is a waste of money and time. Don’t go to this restaurant if you wanna eat edible food. I ordered a brisket, chicken wing, and french fries. All of them were beyond gross. Who doesn’t know how to make good french fries?
