We were seated promptly when we arrived. The waitress Sarah was on top of her game as a server. she took our drink order and delivered them in a very timely manner. Once we placed our order of Large shrimp dinner and Trout dinner, it was served hot and in a reasonable time. She made sure our drinks did not go empty before asking if we wanted more. Highly recommend this business.
You walk into this little restaurant tucked away in downtown Huntington and it looks like a diner where time has stood still. Don't let the place fool you - the food was fantastic! Our server was very friendly and attentive. She brought us a bowl of hushpuppies with our drinks. They were herby, fluffy, perfect. We got the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. They were juicy with a light seasoned crust - again perfection and a really good sized portion. We had fish and chips, a shrimp po'boy and fries. Everything was lightly fried in a tasty seasoned coating. The fish was fresh. Not a hint of greasiness. Really, really great food! Do not hesitate to eat here. We will be back!
We were traveling cross country and had plans to stay overnight in Charleston, WV. We decided to stop at this little local gem for a break from the routine road food experience and couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. The location is easy to get to, the neighborhood interesting and the restaurant unique. It’s a seafood market, so you know the fish is fresh. And the variety of choices were huge. I had walleye, which, living on the east coast is a rarity. My husband had fish and chips which he thoroughly enjoyed. They even had a German beer special, which was delightful.
I had the fried white-fish po boy and it took me back to my days in New Oleans! Generous portions and great service!
Blew away my expectations. Super waitress great tasting food about a 30 min wait, which was totally worth it. I love good calamari but so many places get it wrong. Not here! Was fried and still tender with good flavor. Breded mushrooms were best in town even macaroni salad had a lot of flavor. Nothing was overly breaded if it was fried. Everything everyone had looked good. One of my company had calamari chowder the white kind. Was so full of goodies I was drooling. Nice and thick. Anyways super place it is a jewel. Even the prices were good ?
Love the fresh food at Jewel City. I usually order the crabcakes which are the best. Sometimes I get the fish or shrimp po boy which are great. This visit I had the fish tacos with grilled mahi mahi. The sauce and red cabbage brought out a lot of flavor in the fish. Jewel city is on the pricey side as compared to some other nearby eats, but the quality is outstanding. Always a hit!
We had not been to jewel city in many months. We decided to go for Valentine’s Day. Service was pretty good. We went after the actual Holiday midweek but it was very slow service. But our biggest issue was the expense. For the amount of food we received we could have bought a weeks worth of groceries for an entire family. Very expensive for what we got. My spouse said they were still hungry when we left. It was good but not worth it. Definitely will be a once in a great while treat for us.
I love this place. They always have good food, and great service. If you enjoy local "non-chain" eateries, you should definitely check out Jewel City.I included two pics. One is a tuna steak and some jumbo shrimp. The other is an order of stuffed deviled crab.If you like seafood at all, try Jewel City.
Loved this place food was wonderful. Frog legs and greens were awesome. Actually the people there were wonderful, friendly and upbeat. Great find on our journey this past December When is the vicinity we will stop back and tell our family and friends to stop there.
Great seafood! Great place to eat ?
