I'm fairly certain that the people who give this place a good review saying the sushi is great are only ordering cooked or spicy rolls that cover up the poor quality and bad cuts of fish that they use. Most notably, the tuna is the biggest offender. I have never had a positive experience with their sushi.I do recommend the karaage chicken or the sukiyaki steak.Edit: they did contact me to let me know the color difference was due to the location on the fish, it was still safe to eat.
fun spot and great sake selection. came with 3 friends and we waiting about 30 minutes for a seat. the sushi rolls, edamame, and karaage chicken were pretty good!
Plenty of choices from sushi to hot food. Nicely decorated with friendly staff. Hugh fried rice portion will solve any super hungry kids. Avoid the salmon skin salad as it comes in tiny portion of salmon skill, and too heavy on the dressing.
My daughter and me love this place. The wait isn't very long. Seating is comfortable. Staff is always friendly, kind and help with not deciding what to try on the menu. Food is flavorful, fresh and portions are a good size. Will come again.
This restaurant is relatively new. The restaurant has Japanese food as well as a wide array of sushi. We had an avocado salad and vegetable tempura. The food was light and very tasty. They had several veggie options like the avocado salad, veggie tempura, and veggie sushi. Nice and comfortable Japanese themed interior. Prices were reasonable.
Fast, friendly service! Great location and the food was excellent. Lots of options on the menu —something for everyone! Great value from the bar and the kitchen! Will definitely be back!
Sumo sushi was very tasty and a good addition to a great restaurant scene in Yakima. Good sushi and good prices too. We will be back!
My very favorite restaurant in Yakima. I started coming here when they first opened in beginning of 2021 and still come multiple times every week. The food is always wonderful and service exceptional. I love the sushi, miso soup, and hibachi dishes. But all the things I've tried, which are most dishes, have been fabulous! Great lunch specials and happy hours.
Food was good, sushi was excellent, server was really on it and friendly.(A little rant for the industry as a whole): Honestly the only thing that I dislike is when they force you to pay a set gratuity without the option of choosing how much. I sort of get it but I would have honestly tipped a bigger percentage for the service I got. But when it's 18% off the top.. I'm not a happy camper when the right to choose has been taken away. I know these guys aren't the only ones to do it but why not increase your prices and pay your servers more? It would be more equitable. And still allow people to choose a tip amount they are comfortable with.
Sumo will be one of the top sushi places in Yakima if they keep up their current level of service and quality. I look forward to coming back again.Update: I have made it back several times and will continue to do so. The rolls were on point as usual and the service was was quality as ever. But, what impressed me most was the work someone put into the menu. The literal menu, not the food (though the food demands credit too). They created a small book that details each item quite well and provide additional points of emphasis on spiciness, reccomendations, and vegetarian. It presents quite nicely, a great improvement over a laminated sheet. They have solidified themselves in my top 3 for Yakima.
