Really disappointing - nothing I had was any good. The Lao spicy basil lacked flavor and was way more oily than any stir fry I’ve ever had; Tom Kha was tangy but also strangely flavorless. Spice levels aren’t accurate. Echoing a previous reviewer, this tasted like sad fast food, and I kinda feel bad for the other reviewers who think it’s great. Someday they’ll have actually good Thai food and their minds will be blown.I didn’t really think I was picky about Thai food before tonight, but I definitely won’t be back to Sweet Rice. You should find somewhere else, too - there are enough Thai places around to skip this one.

I'm not sure how long this place has been open, but I was really disappointed in the way that my experience started out. I had to literally, yell my order, because the young guy behind the counter couldn't hear me. Even then, he needed me to repeat everything. Including the answer to his very first question, "for here, or to go?".Customer service skills were non-existent, a total dud. The restaurant was empty, yet I felt like a nuisance rather than welcomed. They were out of more than half of the things I tried to order, including ALL beverages. The food that I did receive was delicious. Had my front counter experience been better, this would have easily been a 5 star review.I recommend calling ahead to see if they have what you want, to avoid the front counter fiasco that I went through. No pictures... because well...the food was ugly, and the restaurant was too dark because all the windows are blacked out.

It's difficult to pull me from the only dimsum in Tacoma, but through a wild advertising campaign on Instagram, Sweet Rice managed to bring me through the door. The location sucks but most of the best food in the world is in terrible locations. It's the taste that matters. We ordered the Crab Fried Rice to go. First issue is the crab. The menu says fresh crab, but I would bet that it might be from a can. Nothing bad, but the menu says fresh. The only other issue was the oil. Tons of oil and very greasy Like that takeout scene from the first Rush Hour movie. The price was also not updated and we ended up paying more than the menu board read. The actual flavor was insanely good. The rice was delicious, and the spice level was dead on flavorful.I intend to revisit and try some other menu items because the base flavor is so freakishly good. I will update the review then.

Delicious & unique Laotian food in Tacoma. It may not look like much, but portion are quite generous as it's jam-packed. Flavors are quite deep and complex and very delicious.

We ordered take out. The sweet Rice Mix plate and two orders of pad Thai. The portions are smallThe Mix plate came with Marinated beef and it was dry jelly that had little flavor and shattered when eating. The other meats in the mix plate were pretty flavorless. The pad Thai was pretty flavorful even a 1 was really spicy. My husband got a 3 and the levels seemed to be exactly the same. I can handle the heat but my kids won't eat it.

I heard so much about Sweet Rice well I tried it today and I must say it was a waste of my money the beef was tougher than leather I had the Mekong Beef, sauce had no flavor and was watery., the veggie egg rolls were hard no flavor as well it was a waste of my 15 dollars..

Sweet Rice Mixed Plate is gone at tacoma location. Unable to find it :(The food here is far superior to many places I’ve ever eaten. However, losing the mixed plate is an absolute bummer if this is permanent.

1st time here & it is cafe style so you pay before you eat. The pad thai & fried rice rice had a good flavor. I wish I knew the servers name but she was incredibly nice! GREAT service & so welcoming. They also have Macadons macarons! I wish they had a changing table in the bathroom and I feel like meat should be included in the price of the stir fried noodle dishes like other Thai restaurants but other than that it was tasty! Also the serving of pepper beef was rather on the small side.

We lived in Laos for 7 years and love Lao food. This is by far the most authentic tasting Lao food that we have found. We especially like their nem khao, Lao style sausages, and their jeow mak lin is the only real-tasting Lao tomato salsa that I have ever found outside of Laos or my wife's kitchen.

The place was very clean and the staff was very nice. This is why I gave a better rating. The food looks very flavorful and it was presented neatly and with care, but my critique is that I feel that everything was too sweet. I couldn’t enjoy it as much because everything was overpowered by sweetness. Idk if they were just having an off day with the sugar? If we try it again and it’s different I will change my review. It is called sweet rice so maybe that is how it’s supposed to be. But even my coffee was overwhelmingly sweet. This is just my take on it. Feel free to enlighten me if I’m in the wrong.
