I wasn’t sure what to expect of this little place. It’s very much like a modern village, it’s tiny and has many small shops and businesses by the water. There is a nice strip of pavement, good for roller blading or long boarding, and lots of places to sit by the water (benches shaped like t hooks for ships). On the way in, depending on which direction you come from, you may notice two military/commercial transporter ships (c7/roll on roll of) the SS Cape Island and SS Intrepid, which are used for strategic defense. These are pretty cool if you’re into military history, icons for the Tacoma-Ruston waterfront.
Parking was easy, it would be nice if all merchants validated parking! We went to the movies, a little walk dinner at the coppersalt and desert at ice cream social. The restaurant doesn't validate because they have their own parking, so I should move my car because I'm going to eat at your restaurant. Because we couldn't validate our $100 plus bill we were 2 hours past our validated time. We haven't been to Ruston for anything in 2 years , it's lovely, if a bit overcrowded, and in desperate need of a parking program redo!
Showed up about 10pn to walk in the waterfront and all of a sudden the police were pulling in lights on he jumped out asked if we saw a fire anywhere and started looking around.. He never found a fire and ended up coming down to speak to us and some others to see if there was anything burning . I was impressed with the response but not too much like fire rescue wasting time when it was just kids with fireworks... It's very pretty at night and seems to be safe. Saw a bunch of people riding scooters along the waterfront and that looked amazing. So it's a overall great time... Check it out lots of new shops and places to eat . The prices of the condos to buy tho are a little bit crazy but it is the waterfront.....
So much to explore. Will definitely recommend and go back.\\nGrowing and expanding, shops, hotels, restaurants, activities, playgrounds, attractions, apartments with an amazing view. This place can take all day or more to admire the beauty of nature and many man made artistic details all around.
The only reason for a medium experience is that's it's not clear where you can park and there were some sketchy people there after dusk that had clearly been drifting the only parking lot...I wouldn't leave my car here overnight.\\nThe area itself is cool with theater... Sunday Market.... and restaurants and shops.... it's just that you can't park anywhere near them. I just think the whole parking is a bit ridiculous.
This region is the best for a date. There are many photo areas and things to talk about. I just wish there were more regions to walk around in some cases. There is a trail nearby. An Anthem resides here and there are other classic shops.
I was given a ticket even though parked in an unmarked space with validated parking from the movie theater After trying to ask the parking monitor why I was ticketed he became extremely upset and irrational with answering any questions. His anger Got the best of him as he proceeded to back into a car. He then tried to label me as a kidnapper because I was trying to ask questions about the ticket he wrote.
What an amazing breath of fresh air in the Tacoma/Point Defiance area. I hadn't been back around these parts since I was a kid and my has it changed for the better. It's become a full on coastal resort town with condos, shops and restaurants, a paved waterfront trail, a massive park, a public market, and more. We will definitely come back to spend time here again!
It is getting better each year. Very nice place to walk, run, bike, etc. , and have fun with kids. Fresh air and great view. Restaurants and shops. Highly recommend
Nice looking redevelopment, but the music that is played all day and late at night is disturbing the peaceful views. If you are staying at Silver Cloud hotel be ready for that. So sad, I would not stay here again.
