My Chimichanga was more of a soggy burrito. If it was deep fried, maybe it was fried up yesterday because surely it wasn't fresh at all today. The tortilla looked wrinkled up and watered down...stretchy too.Our server Fransisco claims that all Chimichanga's are soft like a burrito and argued that it was supposed to be like that.I digress.
Quality of meat (steak and shrimp) is really excellent. I had a steak (asada) dish and the steak was very tender and well-marinated. Fantastic service on a busy weekday night. Our server gave great recommendations. Cozy, quieter atmosphere with attentive and very friendly service.
They can't even do cheese nachos right?! I ordered simple cheese nachos and the chips were burned to a crisp an inedible. The waitress seemed not to know what gluten was when I mentioned that I have a gluten allergy as well. I ordered some mac n cheese for my kid to eat and the mac n cheese looked like it was made from a box of store bought stuff. That's embarrassing for $7! I will just start making the time to go elsewhere.
Stopped in for lunch, as it was close to our destination. I had enchiladas and my friend had a taco salad. My lunch was just ok, nothing fancy but it tasted good. My friends taco salad wasn't so great. The juice from the ground beef had pooled in the bottom of her taco shell, making it taste not so good. Our waiter was very efficient and checked on us alot. This restaurant is hit or miss. Service was good, food was so=so.
We ate recently at this clean and friendly restaurant. My wife had "pollo ala crema" and I had chicken with mole (a mexican sauce). My wife found her dish to be bland in taste and lacking enough mushrooms that would normally be part of this dish (had only five slices of mushroom). It was not enough to say, lets go back again for this dish. My mole was very tasty and spicy (most mole in resturants are not spicy). I like my mole spicy. You can enhance the taste by asking the waiter to add onions and mexican queso on top. The totillas were good. If only they controlled the noise levels when parties have childen to keep them from running around the restaurant. Friendly staff.

The best Mexican/American food in Tacoma. Tops the other "M" restaurants.Marla has added some authentic dishes to the menu and the presentation and taste are on point.Very active bar scene and a great happy hour.Well trained food staff and an excellent bar team.
Thank you Maria's Cocina Mexicana for taking care of my family today. It was our first gathering since Covid and we drove from different counties to meet for a meal and celebrate each other. I wish I had gotten our waiter and server's names, but they were amazing and took fabulous care of us. I've known for a long time that the food is great at Maria's, but today we also got to experience the hospitality of your staff. Thanks again, you guys were amazing!
Great Place in University Place to get some family style Mexican style food. Some of the dishes are definitely Mexican American, others are definitely South of the Border in origin. Very good Margaritas also.
We have been going to this restaurant since it opened over 25 yrs. ago! The waiters /waitresses are friendly and accommodating, and the food delicious!! Don’t hesitate to give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!
