Jewel Box sums up the ambiance of this quaint coffehouse on the square on Grand Loop in Ruston. We were staying at the Silver Cloud for a few nights while we attended a family wedding back on Tacoma's Dock Street. Coffee's were excellent and the food was just about right. Service was a bit slow, but since we were in no hurry, it was fine. Lots of places on the main floor and upstairs to sit awhile and enjoy chatting and breakfast.
Great atmosphere and chai, good food, slow service. If you have the time, it’s a great stop for a good selection of crepes and sandwiches and similar things. Fantastic atmosphere that is an eclectic mix of coffee house, homey and Northwest fancy.
Booths. This box got booths. Also stained glass. I bet they have good drinks. I mean I tried the drinks. But I don't remember. I think it was good. I just remember the lights and chandeliers and the wooden atmosphere. It has a second floor too. Spacious!
Had my first experience at this quaint cafe today. The place is quite cute! The joy went down hill when I ordered a ‘classic’ eggs Benedict. I’ve had this dish at so many restaurants and in many states. So without reading further I ordered it and a yummy sounding pricey ice tea. When my food arrived I was surprised to see a fried egg under the hollandaise sauce!? Classics Benedict’s are poached eggs. So I thought it was a mistake and asked at the register. She returned to say they do them there with over medium eggs…..?? No offer to make it as it should be no nothing. Now I’ve looked their menu back up and see it does say a fried egg over easy on the menu. So shame on me for thinking classic means just that, but why then state they do over medium -which is what it was on my plate. And if so change the name to reflect it’s different from a classic Benedict like Jewel Box Benedict. Plus, my yummy 6.00 iced tea came in a far too small plastic cup and there were no refills period. The customer service and focus on customer satisfaction is lacking here.
Charming atmosphere but not impressed with the food. Had the smoked salmon crepe; basically a salad inside the crepe with raw veggies. I had hoped the veggies would be sautéed and not cold and raw. Eating off a disposable plate and plastic flatware isn’t adding to my experience.
Jewel Box Cafe is a great stop if you are visiting the waterfront. They offer gluten free crepes, which my celiac friend enjoyed. I found a little trouble finding a meal that was dairy free so I settled on a hot oat milk matcha and a vegan green smoothie. The ordering process was online and then you picked up in the front of the restaurant. It was a little difficult to navigate but we figured it out :)
The Spiced Apple crepe was delicious! Coffee was great too!
Coffee was fantastic and service was awesome! Workers were kind and helped me validate parking super easy. Meat breakfast wrap was okay, not bad but probably wouldn’t order this again.
Dine in service where they call out your name and don’t bring your food. Also, don’t try the Eggs Benedict, sauce was watery and looked like from a bottle. The GF toast looked like it wasn’t toasted or buttered and just fell apart with all the watery sauce meaning I had to scoop my mush up in order to eat it.Drinks were very good but they sat on the counter for 5 mins because we assumed dine in had table service and were sitting too far away to hear our name called.Be careful with your tip, we prepaid thus paid reasonably and obviously couldn’t take it back.
Good coffee and crepes. Nice atmosphere.
