This place has the worst Chinese food that I’ve ever had in Spokane wa. Me and my mom both didn’t feel good after we ate dinner here. The egg rolls tasted freezer burnt and same with the rice. I paid $22 and it wasn’t even worth it. And my mom paid for a $19 special that wasn’t even a special. If I could I would give this place no stars. I definitely don’t recommend
I will start by saying I have always loved this place, and have been coming since I was a little kid. This has been a place, for many great memories and life events for myself and family. However I don’t think I will be back for Dine In or Take Out. Back story; We came for a family dinner of 10 ppl in October, for my birthday. The service was terrible, multiple meals were wrong and by the time they had re made them, half the table was done eating. Drinks had not come tell maybe 25 min. prior to us getting the bill, even though they were requested initially when we sat down, and asked for multiple times. When we got the bill and saw the mandatory tip I left our waitress know I was not paying ANY tip. We had 3 separate bills and all 3 had this big tip. ( I will also state I’m the same person who will leave a $50.00 tip when the service and food are good.Fast Forward to last night we came for my mom’s 56th birthday. Called ahead a few days ago, and was told this request I had would be easily accommodated, I needed a separate table then my mom and sister due to my son coming with me and has severe special needs. It was requested when we arrived, upon waiting my mom and sister were discussing the mandatory tip on everyone’s bills when a party of 10 or more is sat down, ( this was a discussion across the board, because MANY dining places do it.) A minor miscommunication came, because I think the servers thought that is why we wanted two tables. ( If that had been the case as well, I don’t see why they wouldn’t sit ppl separately either. You don’t know he circumstances of those coming in and not all could afford that possibly..) LOL ANYWAYS, I politely interrupted the pointless banter about mandatory tips and explained that I would still pay their mandatory tip I didn’t care, but we simply needed two tables by each other due to my son and hi special needs, at this point I got nothing but eye rolls, and bad attitudes from the employees. The manager, was not much nicer.. We all eventually got sat down, and my mom’s table had a server there quickly ready to get drinks and appetizers. We waited about 10 minutes and asked if we could get some drinks and appetizers as well since no one had come over, we were told she would go get our waitress, my son is grunting, and getting frustrated, just part of his delay. At what point “our waitress” refuses to serve our table THE ONLY REASON I CAN THINK OF IS BECAUSE OF MY SON. It’s obvious when we come in that we may be a harder table, ( I usually tip well for that alone LOL). Anyways, my son ended up having 2 minor episodes.. The entire staff did nothing but stare, whisper, and make faces. As if it effected them in any way. The glares, eye rolls, attitude etc was so ridiculous. I think all your employees should take a class on not discriminating against those with special needs, (its literally AGAINST the LAW). Don’t be another negative impact on a child who does NOT deserve it, He did not ask to be the way he is, period.
The food was fresh and great quality. I personally did not love it, but I can recognize it is because I am used to different Chinese food. I have learned that west coast Chinese food is different than the Chinese food you get more inland. Cathay serves an older style of Chinese food. But the quality was great! The spring rolls are amazing!
Staff was great, food…not so much. Pretty darn bland, served cold, and the price to portion ratio was lacking. Would love to see more vegetarian or meatless options added. 4 pages of menu, 3 items with out meat.
Wow I’ve been coming here since I was 8 years old and I ordered yesterday drove about 40 miles one way got home and I’m very very disappointed in them. I paid almost $100 and it wasn’t worth $20 sry but u lost one loyal customer. Update I spoke to Stephanie the manager and she was a very awesome lady. She is taking care of everything for us. Thank u so much Cathay Inn we will be back.!!!!!!!!! Another update!!!!! I talk with the manager and I went back in and she replaced my whole order when I got back home it was amazing just like it has always been in the past. Again thank you so very much u guys rock. Number 1 Chinese restaurant in my book.
I have no idea how this place has even above a 3-star rating, which even that would be generous. I genuinely cannot say I've ever had worse Chinese food in my life. The only thing about my meal that was even of acceptable quality was the chow mein, which was mediocre at best. Everything else was just terrible and the service provided by the waiters was pretty lackluster as well.Overall, I'd been wondering what it's like for years now. Well, I found out, and it was even worse than I was expecting.
It is honestly B+ to A- food but it's as consistent as McDonald's and they are on target every time. The service is excellent, the prices are good and even when they are super busy it's smooth as silk. Always on point at the Cathay Inn?
We were greeted as soon as we entered and seated quickly. We received ice water and hot tea immediately and were offered drinks by the busser, who was friendly and funny. The server was awesome- her name is Newt. Happy, friendly and quick service. My husband got general chicken- nice large chunks of chicken with just the right amount of spiciness. Served with white rice. I had dinner #6 and it was quite good ? we upgraded to wonton soup which had plenty of bok choy and vegetables and the wontons were also good. The combination egg noodles and veggies were good, prawns yummy, almond chicken was really good and BBQ pork was tender. The meal came with fried rice which I don't like so I brought it home for my daughter ? I would very much recommend the Cathay Inn...I have many memories here from younger days. The food is still quite good! Ask for Newt and enjoy your food ?
Service was great. Nice atmosphere. Sweet and sour pork was the worst I've ever had--both the pork and the sauce.Other dishes were okay.
The wait for our phone in order was about 5 minutes longer than what was quoted. But the wait was worth it. The food was excellent and hot. We got exactly what we ordered. Nothing was forgotten.
