Small Menu but good food.Get multiple because the food portion is kind of small unless you're looking for a quick snack. Tasty and has a nice spicy kick to it.Only thing that surprised me was that the appetizers were cold but I guess that's how it's served normally. Would be interesting to see how it would be if served warm
I like the food here but it isn’t the sorta place I’d go to if I were hungry. Maybe if I had a late breakfast and then it was already lunch time, or if i had a late lunch and it was already dinner. They serve little wraps that are larger than an appetizer but smaller than a meal. My favorite is the paneer. If I’m normal hungry, I would recommend going with a friend and splitting 3 (1.5 rolls each). If I’m more hungry than normal, I’d get two wraps; honestly at that point I’d look for something more balanced for a meal since it is mostly protein and carbs. It's not all the time, so it's okay here and there. My favorite part is that they have some community donations during the pandemic. :) That was very kind, even though I did not personally benefit.
I usually don't eat out for Indian food because a lot of places end up being too heavy. Plus, I'm lucky enough (read: spoiled) to get amazing home cooking on the regular. But Spice Waala is my exception. When my mom was in town, I bought the papdi chaat and aloo chaat and as soon as my mom caught a wiff of it, she was making chai to make sure we did it the whole thing right. It was a hit with her and my sister.Last visit I got the chicken tikka kathi roll which was juicy and so flavorful. Perfect amount of kick. But what I love most is that everything feels light and I don't feel weighed down. The soft servie (coffee/cocoa this time, changes monthly) was delicious. They are also becoming my go to spot to buy chutneys. I just got the imli (tamarind/cilantro chutney) and it is heavenly. I'm finding any excuse to put it on everything. This alone makes me want to up my samosa game ?
I hate to be that person but please stop calling it Calcutta style roll. It's very misleading. The egg roll is nothing like a kathi roll, let alone a Calcutta style. I might even confuse it with a burrito but it was too bland. Lamb roll had a weird smell and tasted kinda bitter? We were so excited to finally come across a nice authentic Kolkata street food option. Really disappointed, especially after all the hype. The chats were decent , if not great. This review is for the Capitol Hill one so I’m not sure if the other locations are similar or better.
Spice Waala has become my go-to take out spot, since moving into the neighborhood. Their kathi rolls are great (I can never choose between the chicken and lamb), and the chana chaat is a whole world of tangy deliciousness that you need to try. Always tasty, always fast, always friendly.
Really liked their chats and rolls !!But chai was awful !!Reply to owner: if that’s that chai benchmark you have.. not sure where you had it.. but come home, i will make you some good old Assam chai ;)But hey i will keep ordering other stuff though.. good stuff !!
Really good Indian street food
Had the lamb kebab kathi roll, chicken tikka kathi roll, papdi chaat, mango lassi, and pistachio cardamom soft serve. Everything was delicious, and the food came out fast. Upon first glance the rolls look too small but they’re the perfect portion size for trying the other side dish options and not being too full. The lamb was wonderfully spiced, the chicken roll was flavorful and had a slight kick, the papdi chaat was refreshing and a great combo of textures, and the soft serve was awesome. It had a really unique flavor. The mango lassi was good but it was super thick and I think I like it a little thinner in consistency; just a personal preference. The shop is small but there are at least four smaller tables if you feel like dining in. I’ll be back!
Best value in Seattle. Focused on Indian Street Food, the dishes are perfectly spiced and prepared. We love everything on the menu. It is our new go-to for takeout.
10,000% will order again.Chicken roll and fries were on point. Best part, they included an extra sauce without charge. Good peeps. Good food. Lucky to have this type of place in the hood. :)
