I get the same quality of fish, whether its at Elliott Bay, Lake Union Fish Bar or North Seattle. Great service. Sometimes, they feature a special menu item such as, a dessert or Salmon Chowder. They have a Coke machine that offers 20+ flavors. I opted for the 3-piece Salmon and Chips this time rather than the 3-piece Cod & Chips dinner. Long live Ivar's.
So this is what I wrote to Ivar's --- "While the ladies were great at the front counter, there was a staff (A man) that was on the floor the whole time I was there running his mouth to a couple sitting/eating there meal. He couldn't help out the rest of the staff working there as he was steady running his mouth"/And this was the response I received back --- "Dear Mr. Stenson,I am truly sorry that I was out front speaking with customers in a friendly and engaging manner on my day off. I was truly glad to see my guest as he has had some health and mobility issues and wanted him to feel that he was wanted, missed and that I was truly glad to see him and his caregiver. I was only sorry I had not seen him earlier as I would have bought them lunch and possibly spent more time with him, he is truly an amazing man and has been in Seattle for over 90 years. I find his take on life and what is going on in the little area we live in, to matter to me. As to the girls and employees needing my help, I assure you they were more than able to take care of the guests and were probably glad I was not in the way of them doing the excellent job that they do each and every day they work. So while you let me know that you were not happy with me, it is evident that you agree my staff is wonderful and I appreciate the confidence in them that you have shown, I will make sure that the ladies and gentleman that were working know that their work is above reproach and that it is noticed. Salmon chowder was beyond fantastic, and full of flavor all the way to the last spoonful. The regular clam chowder is a staple and classic full of goodness and smooth creamy taste. Restaurant was clean and the staff helpful.
Report: “The chowder was almost like glue it was so thick.” “Breaded cajun fish was just not very good.” “The shrimp…I get way, way better breaded shrimp from Costco” all of us left food on the table.
Every time I visit Seattle I absolutely must eat at Ivar’s. I love the fish and chips and the chowder but am eager to try some of the newer menu items that they have added over the years. The regular fish and chips are absolutely superb and are the gold standard against which I judge all others. I just visited the Aurora ave location and found the staff to be incredibly warm and friendly. The woman who took my order seemed to recognize most everybody who came in and treated everyone like family. She’s a gem! The oldies music in the dining room is a fun touch. Prices are high yes, but are incredibly fair when you consider the quality of the fish. The fish is not cooked until you order it so expect to wait about 10 minutes or so. Maybe a bit more if they get busy. It is always worth the wait Highly recommend!!
I bought a 4 piece cod and chips. The fish was good but the fish pieces seem really small. Seems shrinkflation has struck the Ivar's chain. However it does also seem to be some of the lowest priced fish and chips around.The fish was delicious and hot even after driving it all the way home. They seem to give a generous portion of fries which helps soften the blow of the smaller pieces of fish.Ivar's is a great value and the cheapest/fastest option for fish and chips in my area.
Our food was good. We love the chowder and the baby prawns. We had to show that we were vaccinated to eat inside.
I cannot express how much I love Ivers chowder. I've had better fish and chips at market fish monger. But you get pretty close to perfection with the Cajun seasoning on the cod. Yummy!!
Ivar's is a seafood chain known for its clam chowder bread bowls, fresh fish, and quick service. This location on Aurora is usually pretty slow, pricing is average to high for the portion sizes, and staff is pretty friendly. The parking situation is very weird here, especially with the KFC drive thru right there. They have seating inside, and do a lot of to go orders.
This gotta be the best location. Came here one night and they were playing oldies music and every single customer was twice my age, just vibin' to the music while enjoying their food.
