Absolutely misleading - My daughter and I went to enjoy a vegan meal as it is classified as a VEGAN restaurant. After approximately 4 minutes, when we were finally acknowledged, the waitress informed us they have moved away from serving vegan food and only have "regular" food, as she put it. No apologies, no explanation, nada. So, if you are vegan, possibly even vegetarian, DO NOT GO HERE- they are not a friendly staff, nor are they alternative diet friendly.
Used to really enjoy this restaurant, good food, good atmosphere and an awesome location. Went in for the first time since 2020 and it appears like it must be under new ownership.Plant based menu is a good idea in theory but food was basic with limited options and for lack of better words just not very good. Was left really disappointed.
Great friendly service and cool atmosphere. Was super excited to see that they went vegan but the food is really lacking a lot of flavor. Doesn't help that it's all served in paper to go containers even when you're dining in. I'll keep going once a month or so and will update this review if things change! Perhaps more important than the food is the margaritas which are incredible, strong, and affordable.
Formerly one of my favorite Mexican spots in the city. Hadn’t been since covid and returning to find no more carnitas, barbacoa, and other meet favorites have been dispensed with and what plant based items you can now order is served on disposable plates? Beyond disappointing. Won’t be back unless they change back to the great spot El Borracho used to be.Two stars because the Tamarind Margarita is still good and the bar tender was great.
I, like many people months ago, went in remembering their delicious food and was not aware they had gone fully vegan. It tasted like food you’d make at home served in compostable plates with compostable forks. Self-serve sauces and water. The vibe is just completely different now. Please note that the last 43 reviews since their change equates to a 3.67-star review. Their seemingly decent rating is riding on the back of their former success.Extra star for the friendly bartender and great margarita.
Real dang good vegetarian burrito with a super flavorful red Chipotle sauce add on, and guacamole ?I could drink that red sauce like a SOUP, it's so good. Very cozy date night vibes, and the margaritas and loaded nachos looked good but didn't try any tonight. Also loved their cool wall mural and the help yourself sauce fridge with 3 different awesome sauces. I will say that by volume the bowls are way smaller than a burrito so be aware of that if you're feeling pretty like my bf was.
So great to have another vegan spot in Ballard—and a taco/Mexican spot that has more vegetarian/vegan options than just “veggies.” I’ve tried most of the tacos on the menu, as well as the bowl. I actually really love the Tajin Shrymp protein, and the al pastor (tofu) is a close second. Great margs as well if you’re dining in, and the guacamole and salsas are also good!
Very disappointed with my last service on 1/6/2022.The food has gone ALL vegan. No plates or silverware. All disposable eating plates and eating utensils. The music was offensive. It was not traditional Hispanic music, It was loud rapping cussing and cursing and unprofessional. The T.V. In the bar was showing graphic, killing bloody, crass movies. The food had good flavors and good merit. It was not like what I used to eat from this restaurant before the COVID-19. I used to be a regular at Borrachos Ballard for many years before the pandemic. But now it is not the same restaurant.
I'm not sure where to start here but I'm leaving this mostly because there is no way to contact the owners of the business or managers. The Ballard location itself is just... fine. They did a good job decorating and keeping it clean but, my god, the business itself is ran very poorly. Firstly, their social media is dead. Completely unused. Their hours are not posted properly and are incorrect. I tried three separate occasions to show up and order food after them not answering their phones only to find them closed without a reason why or special hours posted anywhere. The staff is friendly and helpful but the saving grace of this place is that it is vegan. The food is delicious and well done but it does need some changes. You can only get the same three burritos so many times. Anyways, that all said, I love Seattle and I love the growing plant based scene here but this is not a shining example of it. I really really wish that the owners would try harder as it's sad to see such a cool idea go to waste.
The food it’s self is bad, it’s not authentic Mexican food it’s a white wash version. I guess if you don’t really like Mexican food this is a good place
