Really liked the food here. The fried chicken was amazing (so juicy! so tasty with the hot sauce!) and the banana pudding was to die for. Like it was so good.Other reviews said the catfish grits was great but I thought it was just fine. The grits were watery and the catfish was pretty good but nothing to write home about. The Mac and cheese was great (it had a kick which was really cool) and I also thought the cornbread was really solid, worth getting. Grilled okra was good but a little salty.Overall the fried chicken and banana pudding made the meal worth it and the cornbread and the mac and cheese were both really good too. Was a bit disappointed by the catfish and okra based on other reviews but they were fine. I'd definitely come again!Oh also we came at 5:40 for the walk up and got a table in 15-20 mins, I think because of a reservation cancellation. They said it could take an hour and a half without any cancellations which I didn't understand because there was only one other party ahead of us and there was a bar that would open up. Anyway the walk up was fine but you may have to get lucky waiting on someone to cancel, which seems pretty frequent since people just nab reservations way ahead of time here.
Can I give them a 10 out of 10, would absolutely recommend!!! Everything was amazing. Yes there was a little wait but completely worth it. Our party of 17 celebrated a birthday here and everything was amazing. I had the Idont if it was grilled or what but the Orka? amazing the cornbread. Just take a piece and eat with ur Pork chop..the Mac and cheese omg. I had a little of everything..and thinks were on point. Just wonderful experience. I'm literally in the restaurant right now.
Finally got to try this restaurant and it was so yummy. Luckily got a reservation and were seated promptly. The menu is a QR code which was easy to use and read. Got 4 appetizers and 3 mains which was enough for 4 people. The hood sushi was good, unique flavors and all. The shrimp toast was really good, a tad bit too done for me. Chicken wings has flavor but wish it was more juicy. Mac and cheese had a lot of flavor, better than expected. The mains were all amazing and unique in their own ways.Hood Sushi: 4/5Shrimp Toast: 4.5/5Chicken Wings: 4/5Mac & Cheese: 4.5/5Catfish: 5/5Jambalaya: 5/5Garlic Chicken: 5/5
First I have to say the catfish and grits was one of the best dishes I’ve had! Unique and so flavorful. A lot of the appetizers were amazing as well (except the hood sushi wasn’t as impressive as I’d hoped). Overall I was impressed with the food but not as much the ambience. I felt like I had to shout to communicate with those at my table because the music and crowd was so loud and the service was on the slower side. They were also out of almost all the desserts which was a bummer. Pretty pricey for what it was but glad I was able to try this spot!
Tldr - Good place. In their brunch menu, egg Benedict was amazing. Hush puppies & grits, Shrimp & Grit were okay. Not worth the price. Want to try their dinner/lunch menu sometime.Went for a sunday brunch. Loved the look of the place. Service was really good. The presentation of the food was amazing. For the taste, it was good, not amazing. For the price I was expecting more. I had the bloody mary shrimp & grits, my wife had the hush puppies & grits, my friend had the Laos Sausage Eggs Benedict and also got Unc's wings for the table.Laos Sausage Eggs Benedict - this was amazing. The hollandaise sauce had a pinch of spice (like szechaun peppers). It went well with the creamy sauce. The sausage chunks were good. I would have preferred the eggs to be runny on the inside by these were solid. I would come again and try thisThe rest were just good. Nothing unique to them. They could have added their touch to the wings sauce. It was just a regular buffalo sauce. The grits could have used some more cheese. Hush puppies were bland.I also tried their side of chick sausage (The shrimp didn't satiate my meat craving). I liked them. Lot of fat and mild spice. It was juicy! And finally thier side of fruit salad! These were not fresh fruits. They were canned with some syrup which had a touch of Thai red chilli. This small addition of spice made a big diff. The sweet syrup was no longer just sweet, it had a nice spice to it. I drank the syrup too.
I was able to get a spot at the bar at around 8 pm. The website suggests coming at the start of service or later in the evening if you have trouble snagging a reservation, which was definitely a problem for me because I'd only learned of the restaurant the same day when I wanted to go. Thankfully, they have a great system for walk-in patrons and we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. We started with cocktails and appetizers. The hood sushi was a cool dish! We immediately loved the idea and had to try it. So delicious! The wings were a wonderful marriage of sweetness and spice. Gone shortly after their arrival. For an entree, we split the grilled pork chop an ordered several sides: macaroni and cheese, cabbage, greens, and cornbread. From the sides, the cornbread and greens were a great combo. The bartender suggested the Mac and greens combo, but dipping the cornbread in the pot likker was definitely my favorite. We got the peach cobbler for dessert, which was absolutely perfect. The cinnamon, the peaches, the crust soaked in syrup. Exactly what we wanted. The staff was marvelous: friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We were even blessed with a visit from Chef Kristi, who was so gracious and kind that you can't help but wish her all the success in the world. Can't wait to visit again when I'm back in Seattle!
So gosh darn delicious! There were so many vegetarian options and they were all great. Had the mushroom po’mi, collared greens, hummus platter, banana pudding, Mac and cheese…YUM!!! Can’t wait to come back here. Their cocktails are incredible. Loved the rum punch.
Came here for my wife’s bday and got a seat at the bar top. Food was excellent, staff was super friendly and the overall vibe of the place was really fun. Great music, great food, great drinks, everyone was having a good time.
Everything they do here has love written all over it. This might be the first time in my life that I liked a veggie dish the most. The eggplant... My goodness! The wings' sauce has tons of depth of flavor: peppery bbq to tangy apple vinegar finish all while sporting a creamy texture. The catfish is meaty and the breading is crisp. Their brussel sprouts are tender and loaded with crisped garlic. What an experience!
I rarely give restaurants 5 stars but definitely this deserves it. Took forever to finally get a reservation. The service was amazing. The food was so delicious! My favorite was the clams and mussels. A must have. The only thing I would say that I didn't like too much was the side of greens because it was too salty. We say outside and our table had a fire pit. There were great lamps around us too so we stayed pretty warm.
