Creative and delicious!!
Great food, great service! Would absolutely return
Most flavourful Filipino food, if not overall Asian cuisine, Iâve ever tasted!
FOOD is Filipino food for Dummies. You donât put mushrooms in sinigang and cheese in Shanghai lumpia, I understand this is a fusion restaurant but there are some lines that you do not cross.
Fantastic food, drinks and service.
The customer not really
The food was inventive and surprising in the best of ways!
We were really excited to try Bunsoy and enjoyed our night. We don’t know Filipino food so really our focus was just on service and flavor. The space was beautiful and well decorated. Our server was attentive and helpful with suggestions - especially since we don’t eat pork and a lot of the menu was pork-forward.We ordered a half-portion if the Pancit with mushrooms added. It was our favorite thing! Such great flavors and textures. We also had the Duck Confit which was well cooked but lacked some acid (needed balance). And the house fried rice was nice but I would prefer to get it with a large group since the serving was so large (felt better as a side dish). Finally we got a side of the greens in coconut curry which we loved. It was quite pricey and a long distance for us or else we would return.
Was visiting Seattle and tried to search up the best restaurants in Ballard area so we hit up Bunsoy. Here are my thoughts:What I like:The place has good ambience and I like the interior. The service was also good, everyone was friendly. The menu was very creative and interesting. I liked the Ube Painkiller. Never thought ube would taste really good as a cocktail. The duck adobo confit was quite nice, the meat literally fell off the bone and blended really well with the garlic rice I ordered. What I don't like:If you're looking for authentic filipino food, this is not the place. The menu is fusion and quite far off from that familiar filipino recipe. I ordered the sinigang broth on the side for appy but it tasted like Tom Yum soup. If you havent had sinigang before, you'll actually think its just tom yum soup which sinigang really isn't. Also, a tiny bowl of broth without anything in it is $5. Too expensive. The sisig was okay, lacking that crunch from the skin/fat and way too much meat. I prefer it fatty. The Bistek was wayyyy too salty, and that's coming from a Filipino who's used to salty food. It lacked the hint of sweet and sour that we usually get from Bistek Tagalog. The use of NY striploin was nice but the overly salty sauce kind of ruined it for me.
It's not bad food but its not particularly good either, at least for the price. The entrees and apps were pretty salty and generally lacked that filipino acidity that I was looking for. The bistek was just a good steak, seemed to be seasoned with just salt and pepper ??♂️ it wasn't bad, but it didnt really taste like bistek. The adobo was similarly flavored - not bad at all just didn't really taste like adobo, just tender but overly salty dummy/thigh. They have great cocktails though. Idk, if you want filipino food go somewhere else but if you just want some generally good food consider going here. Worth a try and making your own assessment.
