Absolutely amazing breakfast at the Blue Star cafe and pub (not to be confused with blue star donuts in Portland). I'm not the biggest fan of going out to eat for breakfast but holy cow this place has amazing food. The biscuit was huge and the gravy and jam were delicious! Some of the best corned beef hash I've ever had! Perfectly seasoned and soft. Also great service and it won't cost you an arm and a leg!
Staff was outstanding!
We had a group of 7 on a Tuesday night, and the place was basically empty. However, our service was still very slow and at one point we were asked to give up our menus so that another group could have them. (Do they only have 8 menus??)I'm vegan and clarified with the server that the pistachio pasta could be made vegan, as it was marked that way on the online menu but not the paper menu. They assured me yes, it could be made vegan. When we ordered, I asked for the pistachio pasta made vegan. When it arrived, it had cheese on it. The service was already slow and I didn't want to cause a scene (and I'm not allergic to cheese or anything), so I just ate it. And it wasn't eve good. It was lukewarm with globs of melted shaved Parmesan that had re-coagulated. It wasn't very much food, but it was priced at $17. Really truly not worth it. Like, a waste of money. One of my friends ordered the fish tacos and they didn't come out with everyone else's food. The server said "it'll be 2 minutes" but it was literally at least 15 minutes later when he got his food, everyone else was almost done eating. The rest of my non-vegan friends said the food was basically fine. Seems like mediocre food quality for a pretty steep price and the service is very lacking.I will not be back. Also this Yelp page says that they require masks and the staff wears masks—that is not true. The staff was not wearing masks (maybe one person) and they did not require patrons to wear masks.
Some places have a reputation for greatness within the community of Wallingford, and Blue Star is one of them. Finally had a chance to visit here a few weeks ago and while the food and atmosphere lived up to expectations, the service fell short as our waiter seemed preoccupied the entire time, barely came to check on us, and just felt disinterested even when engaging. I do understand many places have staffing issues and I do take that into consideration when leaving reviews - we dined before peak hours on Friday night when it wasn't very busy in the first place, which also weighs in my review. Will be returning sometime in the future as the food was good, so this review may be updated to reflect it and my experience at that time.
Wonderful experience and wonderful food. The bloody Marys are wonderful! We will be back!
We’ve been going to Blue Star Cafe & Pub for a while. Since COVID lock down started, we’ve been ordering them for delivery since we live only 5 min away from them. The foods are always fresh and well packed. My husband loves their Bloody Mary with many versions, so when he really wants it, we dine in now…it’s hard to beat having it in the restaurant. Linda is our favorite server. She is very friendly and makes our day. The owner is also very friendly with raid back attitude. Foods are all great but also their environment make foods taste better.
Average atmosphere, average food, and underwhelming service make this an average, unmemorable place to visit. I did enjoy the crispiness of the fries, and I appreciate that they have trivia night, but it was difficult to hear the trivia host and there was a lack of social energy during the event. This isn't a bad place to go, but it's overshadowed by a multitude of better places that are within reach.
I CANNOT tell you how full and satisfied I am! The food and fruits were not only fresh, but so was the mimosa! The press fresh oranges and they get the mimosa ratio more than perfect. My partner and I both ordered the breakfast combo andd shared pancakes and French toast. Their menu is gargantuan though, so I will have to come back to try more. But I don't know! I just loved what I ordered so much. I bet the whole menu makes people feel like this lol.
Home fries temperature aside, the food here was very good and the country/cafe vibe about the place is definitely fitting for having a Saturday morning breakfast. It definitely gets crowded after 11am, so keep that in mind when coming here. All in all though, a cool spot.
Greeter was on point. Waitstaff needs some diversity training. Several times I tried to get their attention and was overlooked. I literally had to wave and call out to get my check and a togo box. My meal took over 45 minutes to be served then this type of treatment followed. The food was eatable at best, they have a nicely stock bar and condiments on the table.
