Burial Grounds is great and I second everything good everyone has to say, but I really want to shout out to Rogue Teas, tucked away inside Burial Grounds. I think a lot of people don’t realize it’s there, but it is fantastic. Even if you’re not a “tea person,” there are great drinks. The brown sugar hojicha is one of the best drinks I’ve ever had - for those who aren't really into traditional tea but like more bubble tea style offerings, it’s got the sweetness and flavor of a sweet milk tea but with more of a focus on the actual flavors of the tea for the “tea people.” I also buy loose leaf there, and it’s MUCH cheaper than some of the “fancy” tea shops and just as good, if not better. The owner will also give you tips on how to brew any tea perfectly and is very friendly and helpful. Give it a shot sometime!!
The barista working there on June 03 2022 around 1pm was totally inhumane. I had just walked into the cafe from a very heavy torrential storm with my bike and was immediately yelled at. Put on a mask! No other customers had a mask on. But I put on my n95 mask and gloves politely but that was not enough. After seeing my flag on my bike, the Barista said she would need to see proof of vax or I would have to take my drink outside. There were only two people in the huge place and a very heavy torrential downpour outside. I just rode my bike there for coffee in a t shirt and thin sweater and did not have my phone or "papers." But stood outside in the downpour, with my drink, cold, soaking wet, showing their insane hipocrisy and discrimination. I am original american, black, middle aged, queer and female, with a painful, neurological disability that affects my mobility and sight. Normally the staff is nice but this barista was so disrespectful and arogant. I WAS IN A PUNK BAND IN THE 80's before this barista was even born. I have gone there for coffee since 2017 and have worked in advocacy and civil rights for over 30 years. But there I was discriminated against by hipocrites because I had an American flag on my bike. Two of my cousins and my dad died serving this country. They died for freedom these fake anarchist take for granted. Those hipocrites that pretend to support human rights while they judge and discriminate against a black woman for having a flag on her bike. The passive aggressive, "you can take your drink outside" during a very heavy torrential downpour was similar to treatment by RACIST cira 1950's. The blatant hatred and duping delight was psychopathic and cruel. BUT THIS IS AMERICAN YOUTH, NO COMMON SENSE OR COMPASSION. Very sad that she thought that was acceptable treatment of a human being.
Burial Grounds was one of the first coffee shops I visited in Olympia, and has been one of my favorites in the area for over 4 years. They, being a co-operative coffee shop, symbolize a real heart to olympia that i think is vital in a gentrifying downtown. It has been a hub for community and outreach in the area and honestly, just go here. The baristas are always kind and their drinks are so unique to them that whenever i go (which is about weekly) i’m always excited to receive my drink! If you like lavender in your espresso based drinks, the persephone is a must have! - avery
I got an iced “Morticia,” it was delicious! Excited to come back and try other flavors. I really like the vibes and the theme. I wish I like hot drinks because then I could get the skull in the foam :,) the drink was a tea latte with clove. It tasted like smoke but in a really interesting and good way. The prices were good and the staff is nice. They’re only doing door service at the time I went there.
Superb coffee.socially responsible and amazing human beings. Yep DEF my fav iced coffee in all of the Oly area.
Best Earl Grey tea latte ever. They suggested adding a little crème brûlée and lavender, and I was delighted with the results. The vibe is friendly, reflects the unique Olympia culture, and the shop is employee-owned.
This local coffee shop, is one of the most community involved shops downtown. Supporting minority groups and local organizations it is a true gem of Olympia. Too sweet in the deal it has quality coffee and unique specialty cups sure to appease anyone.
Open for take out with a couple tables outside. Nice staff. Very tasty coffee
Getting coffee at Burial Grounds was such a treat! My dear friend brought me there and I was enthralled with this place. Superb coffee, delightful baristas, and the collective is essentially worker owed which tickles my filthy, labor-rights-loving-heart. Solidarity with the service industry and creepy vibes ???
This is the home of Burial Ground Coffee and Rogue Teas. Both are high quality. Check them out!
