Pros: - the root beer was awesome. I love root beer (probably my favorite soda flavor), and their root beer was excellent. I got just root beer, while my brother-in-law got the root beer float. Personally, I'm glad I got the regular root beer because the flavor really stands out, but if you like root beer floats, this place makes a pretty darn good one. They also say the ice cream that they use is premium quality, which it may very well be - but I couldn't taste any difference between their ice cream and store bought. To me, what really made it stand out was the root beer. - Also, the service was friendly and prompt (note though, we were there around 11am on a weekday, so it wasn't super crowded). - Fries were great. If I were to come back (not sure if I will) I'd be tempted to try the garlic fries. Cons: The portions are huge (which is ordinarily a positive), but my philly cheesesteak sandwich and my brother-in-law's burger were so big that they were actually difficult to eat (to the point it was actually a bit unpleasant experience). My brother-in-law, who's a pretty big guy, actually gave up less than halfway through his burger. The burger was almost the size of a dinner plate. Also, on his burger, the bread to meat ratio was a bit off. His burger had three patties of meat, but they were pretty thin, whereas the bread was large and really thick. He commented he was getting too much bread per bite. For my sandwich, it was so messy and greasy to eat that I literally had to get a new napkin after every bite of my sandwich. I also gave up a little less than halfway through my sandwich, and afterward, I had a small mound of used napkins that were soaked with grease. Also, my wife got the seafood basket, and she didn't really like it. She thought Ivar's was better tasting. Also, the menu says the seafood basket comes with cod, prawns, clams and scallops. The menu didn't say it comes with fried oysters. If you like oysters, then great, but both my wife and I dislike oysters intensely. I grabbed a piece off her plate thinking it was a small piece of cod, and it turned out to be an oyster. It was one of the most gross things I've ever tasted. How people eat these things is beyond me...yuck! Finally, this place was more expensive than I thought it would be considering the type of food. After tax and tip, it came out to $40 per person, which to me, is pretty expensive for a burger joint.
Great food but come ready to share. We got the 409 Tri Power burger and it was delicious! And big enough to share and feel full but not stuffed. It tasted great but it is messy so make sure to have napkins on hand (they are at your table).Service was good but not great. Pretty much check in to order, drop food off and collect money. Not a lot of interaction but that was fine. Also, cash only so be prepared for that. They have a cash machine in case you need it.
Holy smokes. Largest burger I've ever had. I could only make it through about 85% of it in one sitting, and even then I was pushing it.The root beer is made with real cane sugar, and they serve it in massive frosted mugs. The floats looked bonkers, but I felt like I had my work cut out for me just with the burg, and I was right.Arrive hungry, and with cash. No debit or credit accepted, but they do have an ATM.The gentleman at the cash was so kind and sweet, especially to our young son. He was joking around, did a little magic trick, and gave my son a little bouncing ball. So sweet.Loved visiting this classic diner and challenging my appetite with their Uber burgers.
Wow... This place is more of a destination than an every week kind of place. My husband used to go here as a kid and has fond memories, so on a trip across the mountain, we decided to stop in for dinner. Not one of us finished our meal. As you will see in my photos, the burgers here are HUGE!!! And the fries and onion rings you get with them are plentiful. Our burgers averaged about $17 each (the fries came with it, but add ons like cheese were a bit extra and upgrading to onion rings was too). A couple of us had milkshakes (8.75 for a "regular" which was also huge) and they were AMAZING. My chocolate peanut butter shake could have been a meal in itself. It was also beautifully presented. The root beer floats were also good ($8.25ish for a small). The root beer there is so very good! And they serve it in frosty cold mugs. (My husband didn't check the menu, and our son just let us know that the large root beer my husband ordered cost $11!! ?) Okay... I'm all over the place right now. So I'll boil it down. The food and the service (the people were some of the friendliest I've met at a fast food place in the recent past) both completely deserve 5 stars. The only thing we would warn you is that it adds up quickly, and truly we could have bought 2 burgers for the 4 of us and we would have all been very full. There might even have been leftovers. But I would definitely say that if you are up for an experience, this is your place. We will go back, but we will be a lot more cautious on how much we order.
First thing, share the burger. I can eat a lot and I could not finish the burger, (that is based on size, not taste). I almost ate the whole thing because of the taste. So, so good. My daughter and I both ordered the 'Low Rider' burger and a Root Beer, of course. I would probably eat here once a week if it was not over 1500 miles away. Next time I am in the area, this spot will be on my itinerary. Really cool, 50's style, diner. It is definitely worth going out of your way to eat here.
We came here on our way back to Seattle, after camping. We all got burgers & floats - it wasn't the cheapest lunch out there but the food was all good and a beautiful day to eat outside.
BRING CASHVery unique and inviting drive-in. Walking in felt like I was walking into a well-kept time capsule. If you’re ordering a milkshake, malt or root beer float, you may want to split the burger with a friend. Staff was friendly. A larger sign warning about the CASH ONLY policy would be helpful.
The joke here is everything's too big. The burgers are the size of dinner plates. You can get a kids meal, or a grown-up priced kids meal, and it's reasonable; but also it's a cash only establishment, which kinda butts up against the "lots of food for high prices" thing, you're supposed to be carrying around a Benjamin for burgers and fries?
I went here to order chili cheese fries it was $9.00 after she totaled the bill it was $12 and change I said no thanks and walked out what a rip off place to eat
Is the Root Beer good? YES!!! I just stopped for a drink on my way through the area. The atmosphere in this place is awesome as well, but you won't be disappointed with the way this root beer tastes. Plus, this is the last XXX Root Beer in the USA, so don't miss out on the chance to indulge.
