I will say first, the food was good. The disappointment was in our "chef". He clearly wasn't enjoying his job that night. He did not try to engage us in any way. Even the kids were bored and uninterested in what he was doing. Maybe just a bad night for him but regardless, it was a let down. They could also do some updating as it had a very 80s vibe in there with clearly no improvements in the decor in years.I also should mention that they were out of the most basic of drinks, ie., Margherita mix, ginger bear, and others. We told the server we were there for my daughters birthday and there was no mention of that whatsoever. We will never go back, especially considering the pricey menu.

I was a huge regular here years ago and stopped going once ownership changed about 5 years ago. I stopped going because the owner micromanaged, made cheap swaps, and all the great staff quit. A coworker told me Kyoto got a new sushi chef and the food is way better now. I went today and it's the same chef from 5 years ago, place looks even more run down, kept hearing the microwave when they were making my "torched roll" and our rolls were the only ones being made, service ignored us, the table/chairs/floors were sticky, our fried rice was pretty brutal and no egg in it?, the online menu on their website and in store menu are way off on ingredients and pricing, employee stuff scattered around sushi area, and overall everything just tasted worse than several years ago. I know this place is good for hibachi but nothing more than that. If you want good sushi in Bellingham Bluefin- always!

Wanted to do a zero star, our group of 11 had reserved @7pm. Our server Tia was really nice but she could've told us it was a first come first serve on orders. We sat for 2hrs (was not busy at all), no chief no food and it's was 9pm. People coming in after us were being served before us and leaving before our food was even prepped. Why take reservations if your orders are on first come first serve bases? We ended up just leaving to look for other options. Sad ? and disappointing. Need new management ?.

This used to be a great restaurant. Not anymore. They can't even clean their grimy windows and sticky floors. To add to our dining experience we heard the sushi chef complaining about management. We asked for tea and our server brought tea just for me. We asked for another cup so she brought another pot of tea to my husband and charged us. So random! We ended up with indigestion and we threw away our leftovers. The sushi was not well assembled and fell apart.

Chef(hibachi cook) was cool. The food is average and yes it’s expensive. Don’t be surprised with bad service(have been here more than once and it’s always a negative experience with the servers even tho there’s barely any people in the restaurant.)

Very tasty Mt Baker roll, pork egg roll and gyoza. Everything looked great on my dinner guests plates. Sat at sushi side

Food was excellent. Service left something to be desired. My boyfriend recieved his meal 10 minutes before mine arrived at the table, waitress was too busy to notice when we tried to get her attention, and seemed annoyed even as we ordered.

Disappointed in the lack of show from the chef. One of my big reasons for going there. Food was ok but have had better experience in this restaurant. A little disappointed.

The service and food were incredible! We went for a friends 40th birthday and enjoyed a nice family-friendly meal with great cocktails and delicious hibachi. Steak and seafood were cooked perfectly and the chef was engaging the entire table. The owner came out and played happy birthday on his guitar while the whole place sang. They also allowed us to serve our own birthday cake at our table. Another favorite of this experience were the sushi roles we ordered as apps - absolutely delicious!

This place has, unfortunately, gone way down hill. Was told 25 minutes for 2 basic orders, showed up and had to wait an additional 20 minutes. There were a whopping 5 people in the dining room and the dirty dishes were in a huge pile in sight of where people were eating. The food was a little below average and the place was not clean. Avoid it, it's not the same Kyotos it used to be (and I have been a customer for over a decade).
