Staff was friendly and quick but have to say, coming from the southwest, the food was pretty lacking. The chips and salsa were good but everything else was too bland or unappetizing. My shrimp taco had those tiny shrimp and smelled too fishy — I couldn’t eat it. My husband got the relleno which had zero spice and, as he said, tasted like Italian food. The margaritas on happy hour definitely used a cheap mix. Very disappointing for the price. I wish I could say better things about the food because the restaurant was cute and staff were great.
Wilted lettuce on my tacos? My husband ordered the same thing and got slaw as ordered on the menu. When I inquired, they offered to bring me a cup of slaw. Never showed up and the poor waitress tried to cover by stating the cook was “frantically” trying to mix it up. Huh?? Was that because I asked for a booth they had to clean up when we entered the restaurant? Not my idea of good customer service…. Never returning.
This place I’ve been coming here for many years. No matter what time it is, everybody working is always smiling, always in a good mood. The food is delicious, drinks are amazing. If you never been please try their Big Mamas. You’ll thank me later. I can’t forget our waitress. Virydiana, you’re amazing. Thank you so much for being such an amazing waitress. Leo, give her a raise.
This is one of those Mexican cuisine places that does very "americanized" versions of food. Big burritos, lots of rice and beans. And they do it well. The food is good, though slightly expensive. The service is good and the dishes are flavorful. They are famous for their big Mama margaritas and giant burritos. Both of which are a great way to start a Friday or Saturday night.
Hubby and I were starving and in the mood for large burritos. Called our order in as we were traveling only minutes from Barkley. When we picked them up 10 minutes later, they were Luke warm. Worst part was they put the lettuce inside the burritos and it was limp and disgusting. We also asked for Verde that was practically unnoticeable. We'll stick to our regular place from now on!
Finally! I've been on the quest to find a place with good queso, good "Tex-Mex" style food & good salsa. We've tried Jalapenos downtown & Jalapenos on Meridian, both were subpar experiences overall; disappointing service & food. BUT in the one dining experience we had at the Barkley location it was great! Salsa (served chilled?) was on point! Queso with ground beef was very greasy, but still tasted great! My husband got the Pollo Asado & it was delightful. I got the nachos & they definitely satisfied my Tex-Mex craving. My only concern which I've noticed is consistent across their locations is that they have an unexplained 3% kitchen service charge they add to your total.
I mean. It’s Jalapeños, the Barkley edition. The prices have risen along with many other places and things, but I was a little unprepared for how much here. Luckily we were there during happy hour, which still had amazing deals. Even their Big Mamas were half off, which was a blessing!Everything was as expected for taste, amount, and deliciousness. A great spot to eat before seeing a movie next door. Absolutely recommend the happy hour.
Rice and beans were very good but wasn't a fan of my cheese enchilada's or the sauce they used. I like the salsa bar they have and not bad pricing for lunch specials. I'll go back for the rice and beans when I'm back in town.
Food was delicious with friendly customers service that made me feel welcome... I'll be back for sure.
consistent yummy food, served fast! the interior design team could find something better than this artwork though
