Unfortunate dining experience at Chop Stick Café on Kent Street this beautiful Sunday evening. We were interested in grabbing a small bite to eat and then walking around downtown, so at 7:05pm we called one of our favorite restaurants to check on their hours. Chop Stick said they were open till 8:00pm and the kitchen closed at 7:45pm; we said we would be there in 15 minutes. At 7:20pm we walked in the door and asked for a table. The person at the counter said they were full, even though there was at least one open and clean table in the front of the restaurant. I said there is an open table right over there. The hostess then spent the better part of 10 minutes telling people to check the side room for a table, and to check in the back with the cooks. While we were waiting I mentioned to the hostess that we just called 15 minutes ago and spoke with you, and you told us you were open until 8:00pm and the kitchen closes at 7:45pm; we came in at 7:20pm and there is a table right over there that is open. Why can’t we sit at that open table, we just want 2 bowls of soup and some appetizers. After the hostess looks at the open table she said they were full and couldn’t fit anyone else in the restaurant. She didn’t even ask if we wanted anything to go. We left and walked to Thai Winchester on the walking mall and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Thai Winchester is open until 10:00pm and even though they were very busy they were able to seat us immediately.
Multiple large prices of Salmon wrapped in cling wrap sat on the bar counter for at least 90 minutes. This may explain why I could not erase the taste of the smoked salmon roll I ordered for my lunch. I tried drinking liquid, breath months, brushing my teeth, etc. Finally ended up puking my lunch after a while. And even after puking, my stomach is still turning. We'd also ordered steamed rolls with peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was chunky, odd. And, we ordered salad with ginger dressing...the dressing was a weird color and tasted more like ranch mixed with something. That's not the ginger dressing one is accustomed to in asian restaurants. Yuck. And, one of my kids ordered a cheese burger. It had ketchup on both buns (weird) and tasted like nothing but freezer burn. All in all, the waitress was nice. I wouldn't return there ever again. And seeing the salmon stay out for over 90 minutes with no chef in sight...
I can’t say this enough. No matter what I order here this place is on point. Great staff and the food is absolutely amazing! A must stop for a foodie
So I went off reviews this time to help me to choose a lunch spot. This is where I ended up. Definitely unique surroundings and decor. This place definitely has an extensive menu which is sometimes not a good thing. Prices are a bit high for the location and food type. We ordered some sushi and I guess Chinese food ??♂️.The sushi seemed fresh but taste less. Possibly frozen for a bit to long. The other food wasn’t hot by the time it arrived. Service was very slow even though not many guests were seated. It ended up to be $93 for 2 people hmm.. yeah I won’t be back. Not sure where all the great reviews are from.
I've been going here for years and absolutely love their food and desserts.
One of my new favorite places to eat. I'll definitely be making the drive from Harrisonburg at least once a month to have dinner here. Service is friendly and fast, and all the food I tried is some of the best Asian food I've had.
the food was authentic and fresh!!! love the old building it is in. really great place!
Nice attentive service. The food was good. California roll sushi was superb and the steamed and fried dumplings were cooked to perfection. Nice spot in Winchester, VA. It’s a gem. Great lunch date.
The best sushi around. The wonton soup is also AMAZING!! EVERYTHING is always fresh, great staff ?
Really enjoyed this cool, eclectic little spot. The Tom Ka Gai soup was excellent. The egg rolls were not greasy at all, and the sushi was delicious. We liked it so much, we went back two days later.
