My goodness... the food was so good it had its own personality! Each dish was flavorful and distinct. Highly recommend the sweet & sour chicken with fried rice.
This was our second and probably last visit to Peter Chang’s. On our first visit both dishes were tasty. On our second visit, we ordered one of the items we’d had before and something different. We did not recognize the dish we’d had before as it had completely different noodles and a near total lack of taste. The second, much more expensive dish, was worse. It had been described as having a variety of seafood and a curry sauce. There was a good quantity of seafood but it was either mushy, or like the shrimp, tough. The sauce was a bowl full of yellow water with no flavor. Service was adequate.
Food came out at a very quick speed but most of it was not good. I ordered the general tso chicken and it looked like it was covered in hot sauce and had no taste besides the heat from the sauce. My husband ordered the duck with onions which was good however be careful of the bones through out the duck. The shrimp fried rice and spring rolls tasted great. The sweet and sour sauce that came with the sweet and sour chicken was awful, the chicken itself was ok but not sure what was up with the sauce. I would not recommend
So... the portions were more than generous and the scallion bubble pancake was good, but that's about all that was good with our take-out order.Husband's chicken fried rice was little more than white rice with a little bit of veg mixed in and two small pieces of chicken, and my "hot and numbing" beef noodle soup was completely lacking in any spice/heat.
This is a very unassuming place. Not fancy, not upscale. But the decor is irrelevant when the food is this good. I would not say we are aficionados, by any means. But this is seriously the best Chinese food we have ever eaten, ever! We (3) went on a Monday night, and it was a holiday, and were seated quickly. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was prepared in a timely manner. And everything was fresh and plentiful and yummy. The highlight was the Sweet-and-Sour Ribs, which tasted like tiny short ribs in a wonderful sauce. Overall a wonderful experience. Price was very reasonable for the portion sizes. You're not paying for the ambiance here. Your paying for authentic, quality food.

We did takeout ? and it was surprisingly good for this area. Many selections and some authentic Chinese dishes. Sweet and sour soup was a bit salty. Double cooked pork belly was a bit oily but tasty. Napa veggie was my favorite.
This is my first and will be last time to this restaurant. Worst Christmas Eve dinner experience. First we called however the line was always busy. So we went to restaurant but noticed it was short of staff and it might be a long time to get served so we order a couple of dishes for taking out. We were told waiting for 30 minutes for food. End up waiting for more than one hour. Worst thing is when we got the food and arrived at hotel, just realized they forgot to put rice! We have to go back to pick up rice. The whole experience just ruined our appetite and holiday spirit.
We ate here on a Thursday night and got a table immediately (the place wasn't particularly full). We've been to a Peter Chang restaurant elsewhere in Virginia, so we knew exactly what we wanted to order. The style of cooking at this restaurant, Sichuan, is well-known for its spicy, or "hot and numbing" style of seasoning. The dishes we got were up to the standards that we have experienced at this other locations, and we left satisfied.
Went with my Chinese daughter-in-law, who told us the authentic Chinese dishes to order. Food was GREAT. Even my daughter-in-law loved it. They bring food out one dish at a time, which I thought was weird, but my daughter-in-law told me that was how they do it in China to ensure each dish is fresh and hot.
