Great service and food! Everyone was nice and friendly and the food was delivered to us i. a fast manor and our server was very friendly and well versed in the menu.
When we visited Williamsburg recently, we couldn't figure out where we wanted to get dinner. As the day turned into evening, we had to make a decision, and based on other reviews chose Old City. We'd planned to eat outdoors because of COVID, but it rained and that was not an option. Fortunately, it was a Tuesday night and the place wasn't filled wall-to--wall and we just gave in. We are glad we did. After a short wait, my family of three (inc.1 child) was seated in a spacious booth and our server came right over. Unfortunately, I don't recall her name, but she was friendly and helpful even though the place was set to close in maybe an hour. The child had kept it simple with something off the kids' menu. My wife and I started with fried green tomatoes (a favorite of ours that must be ordered when it's on the menu). Unlike other places, Old Town dredged theirs in corn meal. Also, the cook must have been keeping an eye on them. They arrive hot and golden brown and not dripping with oil, as we've had elsewhere. Somehow, these fried fruit slices were light and crispy, so that was a win. We both ordered the brisket sandwich. No regrets. On my first bit my eyes got wide and then rolled back because the meat was so amazingly delicious. This was a sandwich I didn't want to end, as we each left out plates clean of anything that could be salvaged. We ordered a slice of chocolate pie and the brown butter bourbon pecan pie. Of the two, the chocolate pie was superior. My wife was disappointed by the pecan pie. Flavor was not strong enough, I think. For those who partake, the restaurant has an ample beer list, as well.
Wow. This is some of the best barbecue ever. I think the wings appetizer might be the best wings I’ve ever had. Brisket and ribs were great. Really enjoyed the cornbread. Tried some of the pork belly Bahn Mi and it was also amazing. If I’m ever back in Williamsburg I’m stopping here again.
We ate there the two nights we spent in Williamsburg. The food was absolutely delicious. The meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Good side choices. Great service
We had a great meal. The brisket was very good as was the pulled pork but the pork belly stole the show! It was fantastic! The greens were very good. Pickles were tasty. Not my style of coleslaw but good.
We entered Old City Barbecue at about 40% capacity. There was waitstaff actively moving about the dining room. None of them came to us for about 5 minutes. I was about ready to walk out before a server finally addressed us. So based on online reviews, this was the go-to place for barbecue. We had just spent the day at Busch Gardens and it was nearby. There were some hits and some misses. My wife's pulled pork tacos seemed to be a hit (she ate them quite quickly). They have some ala carte options that can double as a kid's meal and they do have a good kid's menu. I got three the three-meat entree with pork belly, brisket, and ribs (2 bones). All good, but I've had better. We also noticed the table next to us had cornbread brought to them (which was not part of any entree that we had ordered). It looked good enough and we ordered a couple of pieces. Bad decision as it was way too dry and was actually crunchy.
Food was very good. We got chicken wings & salad. Loved the pecan pie!! Collard greens was little too spicy for me, but husband loved it
Delicious smoked brisket and st. Louis ribs. Best part of meal was the banana bread pudding. The baked beans and cornbread were great sides
I got the pick 3 tacos sampler: the chicken was good, the pork belly was better, and the brisket was best. My side was the poblano Mac and cheese which was EXCELLENT. Very creamy with the perfect amount of heat. 10/10 highly recommend the brisket taco and Mac and cheese. The wait staff was also very good, fast, and friendly.
I have to admit I have trust issues when I drive up to a barbecue restaurant and I can’t smell it. We have a true mixed review here of the restaurant. The hostess was rude and dismissive but the wait staff was lovely especially the trainee! It’s sad when we go to a barbecue restaurant and our favorite part is the pickles and onions but they were truly good. We went for the mixed barbecue and we only really liked the ribs and the brisket. We found the pork and chicken to be very very dry. The brisket chili was excellent but the cornbread was a little bit too crumbly. We had banana pudding for dessert and that was also good!
