This place is a new low in breakfast houses. If you want to waste time and pay through the nose for a breakfast that could have been from McDonald's, this is the place. It took over an hour from the time we placed our order to the time we got our food (placing our order took ~20 minutes to begin with). Our sever never checked in with us to give us an update but brought dish after dish to the 4 person group sitting behind us who placed their orders after us. The server had only three tables. The food was bad enough that we actually left before my father finished eating (his choice). It was comparable in my mind to Shorty's Diner. As the waitress brought the check she spoke down to me as if I was a little child- I suppose as I was at least 40 years younger than anyone in there, maybe she was unaccustomed to speaking to someone in their 30s.

Food portion and taste comparable if not slightly better then the bigger chains. The issues is we felt when eating there. We felt like we had stepped into a old southern plantation that we weren't welcome to patronize. The waitress appeared openly hostile until we killed her with kindness. The service was painfully slow without a customary update. With no explanation no suggestions such as would you care for water? At the end we got the check she walked away. We sat there she never came back. When we tried of waiting and approached her she then told us to take the check up front. I will not recommend eating here nor will return. Everyone in my group are honorable retired disable veterans representing the military. We have fought for "all" Americans even those at "Mama Steve's House." I realize why this place has no long wait and an ample parking. The one bright spot in the place was the "only" person that greeted us. He was cleaning tables and stopped looked at us in our eyes and spoke.

This was a terrible experience. Would not recommend the place. We got here at 10:10am and didn’t get our food until 12:05pm. People that got here after us got their food and I actually had to get up to let the server know that we were still waiting. The server was rude and didn’t show any care when I told her that we were still waiting. Instead of helping she said that it was not her fault. No one was blaming her. I just ask nicely if she could check on our food because we were here before other guest that arrived after us. In addition the pancakes were cold. I understand if you didn’t have enough people working but that was not the case.

While it wasn’t a long wait to be seated it was for our not so great food. We were also seated in a very high traffic area close to the front door with two chairs added to a table that really should have sat three but five were pushed into it.

Mama Steve’s is one of the traditional Williamsburg breakfast/lunch restaurants. The service is great and the food delicious. The restaurant has a ‘home-cooked’ atmosphere which makes for a very comfortable dining experience. The wait staff are very accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend Mama Steve’s for breakfast or lunch if you are visiting Williamsburg.

Waitress was extremely rude. Very loud and crowded. Food was OK - multi-grain pancakes were pretty good. SOS was like soup with one small biscuit.

Update: I came back to give the place a try. The place is nasty and in need of updating (especially the bathroom), though the general decor is nice. Tables are way too close to each other. The original pancakes were not fluffy, flat looking, and dry. The multi grain pancakes were undercooked and sticky. The hash browns were okay, but bland and diced rather than shredded. The servers were great and very friendly, but this cannot make up for the food. Also, they close on Wednesday without putting up any notice. I cannot recommend this place ever. Don't go here. Go somewhere else.Original: Place was closed when the sign said it should be open. Nothing there said why it was closed. After all the hypes from its sister restaurant, I am massively disappointed. I cannot recommend a place that doesn't open when they say they will be open.

I was disappointed in the pancakes. Very heavy and not that tasty. Generous portions and the wait was not long.

Asked for eggs over medium, they were hard. Asked for crispy bacon & well-done potatoes. Got neither. The toast was drenched with butter after requesting no butter. Waiter did redo. Pancakes were very thin, maybe frozen & reheated?

There were 3 of us. The service was good & the food was ok, nothing to write home about. It was not real busy the morning that we went there.
