The Brunswick stew was delicious. The roast chicken was amazing. The service was outstanding!! The live entertainment which visited our dining area was a delivery. Thank you for a wonderful dinner and experience!!

We were very disappointed in the menu here. The one we looked at online did not at all reflect the menu we were given when we sat down. Many of the food options seemed like they would be good, but not during the summer, in 90 degree heat. We were also seated in an upstairs room which was very small and cramped. With that being said, the root beer was fantastic and our waitress was wonderful.

All food was wonderful including the egg white desert....service lovely too. Pus they serenaded us with a harp

A lot of fun getting to stop by for dinner. The service was fantastic, our server was great at explaining the food, the history behind it and also role playing a waitress from the colonial period. Absolutely loved it.The food on the other hand was very mediocre. The roasted chicken breast was extremely extremely dry and so was the pulled pork. The Brunswick stew was solid. The snow egg was a unique historical xperience but not something I would get normally in a restaurant.5/5 service, 2/5 food.

Josiah's was exactly what I was hoping for. The food was good although the Welsh Rarebit was really salty. We only had to wait about 20 minutes and we went around 1pm. My favorite dish we tried was the chicken hash. It's a little pricey but the experience is worth it.

An authentic period restaurant with food representative of colonial times. The servers are dressed in period clothing and furniture/place service is authentic to the time. The fruity cider (hard) was delicious, and we were served the best peanut butter pie ever!

Compared to 20 years ago, the overall quality of food at all the taverns has been wanting of late - say the past 6 years. But this visit, the food was back up to par, and they even have a grill in the back for outdoor eating. Well done Chowning's!

On a very very hot day in Williamsburg we found this lovely colonial pub for lunch. Although not air conditioned they had large fans cooling the area and it was very pleasant. A "colonial actor" played the fife and sang to a guitar adding to the ambience. Our meals were truly delicious. Brunswick stew was great, salads were crisp and delicious, BBQ yummy and chicken stew wonderful. This is a for sure go to.

I loved colonial feel of tavern with staff in costume and colonial food. Food was fun and delicious. Wonderful!!

YES, Chowndings Tavern is wheelchair accessible. Scooters are tougher because their lift is quite small, but doable. Here are some things to think about. 1. They do not take reservations. Walk up put your name on list. 2. They are not open every day. Check schedule or call general number. 3. They were fast. Food up in about 5 minutes. The food was great. Desserts were good. Family like peanut butter pie best.
