Upon entering there was nearly 20 mins before even being acknowledged that we were there. We asked for fries and a kids mac and cheese so we could feed our little one first. The fries came quickly but only about half were able to be eaten. They appeared to have taken 2 trips in the oil or just left in too long. The mac and cheese came about 45 mins later cold and with the rest of the food. The service area is open and all of the servers were just congregated there having a blast. Of the 3 people in the kitchen, 2 seemed idle for most of the time we were there. Right before the food came our server remembered that the mac and cheese was suppose to come with the fries and blurted that out loudly.The $14 burger was pretty poor quality beef, over cooked, and cold with again over cooked fries.The salmon was good but overcooked as well. Buffalo chicken was cold and a cheap patty with dried franks red hot on it.If we weren't starving and had walked there, we would have gone elsewhere.Great view.
Went there last summer. The grand total of things that arrived at our table in the first hour was a single glass of water. We left. Still waiting for our food. Great water though!
Served my toddler spoiled milk. Bad service. Plan ahead for a meal and not a last minute spot to feed the kids in a pinch while staying at the hotel.
Been going to Virginia Beach for 16 years and staying at the Holiday Inn Resort there for the past 9 or 10 years straight. We enjoy having the pool and Square Whale right there at the hotel after a day on the beach. My husband's company even has hosted 2 conferences there as well within the last 10 years, reserving many rooms for people from all over the states. Hard earned money spent. This year, as usual, the food and mixed and frozen drinks were good. However, one bartender named Monique was a totally rude, unpersonable, errogant person. She treated people as if it was their privilege to be waited on by her. We originally thought the first time she served us she just may have been having a bad day. But her attitude lasted the week we were there...not only with us, but other patrons. One of our family members forgot his ID in his room. He and his girlfriend ordered frozen drinks. Monique made the drinks, set them infront of them, then decided to card them. So while he ran up to the room to grab the ID's, their frozen drinks just sat there melting in 80 degree heat. Why didn't she card them prior to making the drinks?? The other bartender, Juan, was fabulous! Too bad Juan wasn't the bartender for the entire week. I'm guessing Juan walked away with the most amount of tips each day he worked. Monique needs to find a job that doesn't require her to have reasonable people skills. Maybe a desk job would better suit her. Every other Square Whale employee was great. Hopefully Monique won't be returning next year.
We went there for dinner while on vacation and we had the worst experience with food ever, the food was horrible. You better off going to McDonalds that to eat in this place. My daughter vomited even before we have finished eating. It was awful and expensive.
I went to this restaurant today and did not have a great experience. When we got our plates they weren’tEven fully cleaned you can see the stains on the plate. There were even tiny bugs on the plant which was surprising to me. I had a pizza and they didn’t cook it that good it was burnt and you can tell that the cheese was old. So I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
Good place to eat since it was attached to the Holiday inn hotel we were staying at. Good draft beer & good fruity drinks. Had hamburgers, chicken wings, pizza hot dawgs. All food was good nothing special. We ate here everyday for lunch. Not a place for dinner.
First of all my husband and I wanted to sit by the beach and this restaurant happened to be near by on our walk. We wait to be seated and already one of the servers is having an attitude with another server and is coming off unwilling to seat us. She seats us anyways with an annoyance as if we were disturbing her obviously not busy restaurant. We ask her if we could sit at the tables by the water and immediately argues with us and says no and gives us some lame excuse to why we can’t sit by the water. End up getting served by another more polite server. The food was questionable, the prices is nice and inexpensive but like they say you get what you paid for. It’s very obvious that some of the food is microwaved but that’s just my opinion. The quality was just not their for the food. The restaurant it self was clean and well kept a and that’s the only nice thing I could say about it.
