As a former chef and food critic The Butcher's Son is nothing less than splendid! So much so that after our first visit, we returned the very next evening, cancelling our reservations at another restaurant! The food, service and ambience lored us back for another round! I've been searching for a place like this in the Virginia Beach area For a long long time! Truly a hidden gem!
We got there early for my birthday. we were treated to a great server named Nathaniel who as very pleasant and friendly. Fresh bread, cocktails, and some appetizers were just the beginning of a true special night. We ordered the 2 for 22.00 steak dinner specials were really alot of food. Very reasonable prices and friendly people, what else could you ask for on your birthday.
Went here for my birthday dinner. Had previously dined at the Chesapeake location. The service and food was amazing! They have my favorite of all time She Crab soup here. My wife and I both had the Shrimp Imperial for our dishes. Our waitress politely explained how a large party had ordered the same so they were making us a fresh batch which took longer of course. But boy, the food was well worth the wait and my steak was cooked exactly how I wanted. Will be dining here again and again.
Visiting VAB and like a true Texan, went searching for a steakhouse and The Butcher’s Son did not disappoint!! Texas is missing out! Wish we had one in Dallas! The food was outstanding. The BEST She Crab soup! I typically don’t like stuffed shrimp but took a chance on the Shrimp Imperial and it was amazing! Very well seasoned and with a wonderful sauce and generous crab stuffing. The creamed spinach and sweet potato casserole were excellent! My daughter’s tenderloin was tender and well seasoned. Wow! The best dinner on our trip! The excellent and prompt service by Abbi were appreciated! If we return to VAB, The Butcher’s Son will definitely be top on our list!
The Butcher’s Son was fantastic. We went here to celebrate our anniversary, so the happy anniversary card that was on our table was a very sweet gesture that we appreciated. We were running a bit behind, called & spoke with someone who said we were fine. Got there and everything was smooth. The atmosphere was very romantic. The food was absolutely sublime. Our lamb was cooked to perfection and the sides were a great addition. My wife enjoyed a glass of wine & I enjoyed my regular. The service was quick and attentive. We appreciated our experience here.
Highly recommended restaurant in Virginia Beach …food was average as I ordered the filet and was disappointed in the tenderness . Daughter in ordering asked about the Tuna and the waiter knew nothing about it as ahi ahi ? He didn’t know the grade of the steak as I was hoping at the prices it was prime but alas it was not . Waiter had been there since January but had to keep looking at the menu while we were ordering to see what came with the meals . Deserts were excellent ……wine list average
***MUST VISIT*** OMGGGG a party of 8 and not one food complaint even down to the appetizers. The food was gooooood, plated very well, portions were enough to take home. I can't rave enough about the place, food, ambience and most of all our fantabulous server Nate "The Great"! Get the crab dip pleeeeeease!!!

Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. Some of the best blackened Mahi I have had in a while. Rest of the guys with me had steak and they all said it was great.
Breakfast Charcuterie was not my idea of breakfast, certainly not Charcuterie. It is more like a breakfast carb tray, loaded with sweet muffins pancakes, waffles. Tiny 2 oz ramekins with goat cheese, cream cheese, pimento cheese, and 1 of butter. Yes, I small butter. Honey on the comb was inedible. Brie, and cheddar, or another hard cheese needed. On the plus side: 4 pieces bacon 4 sausage 4 ham 4 salmon. No Crackers. Naan bread, actually pita bread. ONE BOILED EGG!!!!! ?? for 4 - 6 people!? 4 eggs should be on the tray. Toast or English muffins, and Crackers should be served on this tray. Just order breakfast entree. This version of Charcuterie NOT worth it.
