Staying in Virginia Beach and went here for breakfast. We certainly were glad that we did. Great food and service. Will go back there again when in the area.
We are from a small town in Ohio we were In Virginia Beach in Sept. on vacation for 7days . We would have eaten at Mary's all 7 days but the first day we got into town too late and the last day we left town early. Being from a small town where there are also restaurants like Mary's we couldn't resist going back there not only for the good food but the great people and the atmosphere. What impressed me beyond that was a young man came in and ordered, with the help from the hostess, you could tell he was a little mentally challenged and the owner came out and gave him some one-on-one help treating him very respectfully even though they were extremely busy. This is what I consider a class A restaurant . Thank you for those memories !
It is slightly disheartening that we showed up at 1045 and we were told the wait would be 20 mins. Over an hour later we were still not sat and when we checked to see why, we saw that names below ours on the sheet were scratched out and sat while we had not. We even saw people who came after us get sat before us and they were as well parties of two people. I’m not sure why that is, but we ended up leaving after talking to a young man who said we were still going to be waiting a couple more parties. It is pretty disappointing that we wasted over an hour and half of our vacation just to be continuously skipped over when we were recommended to go there for breakfast.
This is an average homestyle diner. My only experience was during breakfast. The omelette and home fries were good, not exceptional reminded me of a national chain's omelette. What stood out was the extremely poor service. The server repeatedly asked me to "be quick" because the restaurant was busy. No coffee refills, no jelly/jam for the biscuit she brought my plate then avoided the table. Not recommended.
Mary's is another establishment recommended by our local friend. Standard breakfast fare with all the southern variations. The grits were special and the breakfast burrito really good. Service was exactly what one expects when visiting the south.
We came to Virginia Beach for the day and wanted to eat at a "rated" establishment. Mary's Restaurant didn't disappoint. They are only open for breakfast and lunch and we arrived around 1:00. Place was crowded but we only had a momentary wait. And even though we were some of the last people to leave after "closing", we weren't rushed or made to feel uncomfortable. They are located on one of the main drags but there is free parking available, too!
Food was EXCELLENT! I had Chicken Caesar Salad & my wife had one of their daily specials. Navy Bean Soup. Both were outstanding. We took a piece of German Chocolate Cake home with us and it was great. Everyone was very friendly. It’s a few blocks off Atlantic Ave but worth the walk.
First trip to Virginia Beach and we fine this great restaurant. Great food, plenty of food, excellent prices. And the service was great too! The Salmon and Flounder were both really excellent and for a very reasonable price!! Lots of other options if you don't want seafood - it was just what we wanted. Great place to eat!
We always stop here for breakfast when we are in town, because this place has the best biscuits and gravy, ever. I love sitting at the counter, talking to the staff, who are amazing. Next time, my only tweak will be to try not to eat so much. I was uncomfortable for most of the day. :)
We go to Mary’s restaurant every time we are in Virginia Beach. The food is great and the cakes are wonderful. We decided to buy whole cake this time instead of slices.
