Ordered delivery through DoorDash. We ordered a Hot Pastrami and The Cuban. The Cuban was ok but it was hardly “pressed” grilled and wasn’t even cut all the way through. Not a big deal though, this sub was ok . The Pastrami sub was horrible…the sub roll at least. The sub roll was definitely stale! The top portion just fell off after biting into the sandwich which was cold. I can understand temperature as it traveled so it’s to be expected sometimes. I read on the Jon Smith’s website the breads are baked daily. If this bread was baked fresh it was 2-3 days ago or someone didn’t measure the ingredients or didn’t proof the bread correctly. As a classically trained chef, someone did something wrong here. I really looked forward to the sandwiches today but was disappointed. Hopefully it was just a bad day for them
Really nice staff! We tried this place for the first time today. A bit pricey but a 12" sub was easily two meals. Generous portions on the fries and they were quite tasty! The subs were great and had good flavor! The bread wasn't anything special and there was a bit heavy. If there was anything I would ask to change is the use better bread but it doesn't take away from the subs. It could just be a.little better.We would absolutely recommend trying them!
Delicious fresh subs. Met one of the owners, he was the nicest guy ever. We will be spreading the word and we'll be back for sure!!
I had a roast beef sub today made by DJ at your Virginia Beach location. The sub was one of the best I’ve ever had, it was fresh and hot and meaty! DJ not only made my sub awesome but also gave top tier customer service which is extremely important to me! Please give him a raise! He deserves it!!!
Subs two days in a row? If they're this good I may be back tomorrow. I went looking for a good Italian sub away from the normal chains and I was pleasantly surprised. Italian sub amazing . Get it with oil and vinegar as well as a little hot peppers and you won't be disappointed. The fries are really really good and you can get them extra crispy . Just ask the excellent person who helps you how many different was can get your fries
UPDATE*****This past weekend I spoke one of the owners who sincerely apologized and offered a free meal and another opportunity to enjoy a proper experience. An order was placed for pickup along with two free subs, fries and cookies. On Monday December 13, I entered John Smith Subs and was warmly greeted by the cashier. I waited in line and received both the free order and the additional order I placed. I was greeted by the other owner who extended his apologies and presented me with my order! The fries were hot, crisp and fresh. The subs were superbly prepared, warm and delicious! What a tremendous difference! We will definitely be back for more!Previous experienceI placed an order for my family and I using the app for the John Smith Subs at Holland.I ordered a Reuben which was part of a large order. We picked up the order, drove to my daughters house and sat down to eat. When I opened my sandwich, it appeared burnt. I decided to taste it thinking it might not be so bad… well it was horrible. I immediately called the store and a young gentleman answered the phone. I stated that my husband had just picked up order# and gave him the items. I then stated I’m calling about the reuben. I tasted it and it’s quite burnt! The gentleman began speaking to someone else telling them she’s calling about the Reuben and she said it’s burnt. The gentleman then asked me “ well how much if it did you eat?” I replied, “ I beg your pardon?” I heard someone in the background say tell her to bring it back and we’ll make another one. Which he then relayed to me to which I promptly replied, I’m coming right now and will be there momentarily. We drove all the way back to the store approached the counter and I asked the gentleman, “ Is it your policy to ask a customer who is submitting a complaint about an item to ask how much have they eaten?” He laughed and said “ sorry about that”. He then took the sub, showed a young lady and told me it will be about 3-5 minutes. My husband and I sat patiently waiting. A young lady approached us 5 minutes later and said sorry about that, handed us the sub and walked away. We had previously ordered from this location in the first week of December.
The staff was friendly. The food was hot and fresh. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because the Ruben was not what I expected at all. I'm not hating. It still tasted good, it just wasn't what I wanted. They put their own spin on the Ruben. Also the place is a little pricey but overall, I had a good experience. The fries were fantastic and they gave a very large portion.
Employees/Owners are super friendly and the subs were delicious. The Meatball Sub was choice! Not to mention the Garlic Parm fries are some of the best I've had in quite a while. I will definitely be back!

After placing an order on line I went in to pick up my order. I just got done driving for 4 hrs...so I needed to use the rest room so the staff member yelled to me as I was walking thru infant of other customers states we don't have public restrooms it's for customers I said I placed an order and she says name.....so basically I had to prove I had an order... so she looked at the screen and confirmed I did and then I was allowed to use the restroom.it was very embarrassing. And it was great that the entire lobby stared at me...not impressed at all
