Overpriced and rude. The first time we came here we didn’t have mask and were told to leave, which hey I understand and respect that. We stopped by in the fly of the moment to check it out and therefore didn’t have our masks. The lady was extremely rude but we decided to give them a shot anyway and later came back. We came in and there was people there who didn’t have mask and they were told nothing. I will say that I am Hispanic and they were black.Alright well I still looked passed this and ordered BBQ chicken, it was so dry and their fries and Mac n cheese was subpar. My husband ordered pork chops and that was way too salty, same with the rice and gravy. And we like to spice our food, we love flavor! But that wasn’t it. Don’t waste your money, go somewhere else that isn’t overpriced or that’s actually worth the price.
Great food. Friendly service. Large portions. Good spot for taking out meals. Probably the best pork BBQ and fish I've had in southeastern Virginia.
Called there to place a pick up order, the lady that answered the phone was extremely rude. Didn’t say hello, I asked to place a order for pick up, I think she said go right on, I didn’t hear her so I said excuse me, and she yelled and said go head! I hung up, didn’t place my order and I won’t ever order from there. These places need better customer service. You mad about your job, find a new one smh. And come to find out that was the manager…smh. I try to support my black business but I will never eat from here! And when I called to talk to her about how rude she was she tried to deny what she did…I have no idea how this lady even has a business
I went to Ellen’s 2/25 @515 it was a older woman with a short hair cut and glasses and a short dark skin guy working. They both were really rude didn’t feel welcome at all didn’t greet me or even a hello. The older lady had a attitude and was complaining about others that she work with. They guy didn’t wash his hands while handling my food. Also the food was not hot and ready like it said on the glass, the baked chicken was dry mac and cheese wasn’t satisfying at all either . I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone
Very nice ladies with awesome attitudes. Mac and cheese was buttery than I'm used to but the friendly environment made up for it. The pork BBQ was great!
Y’all this ain’t it…I was so hopeful, especially since I love supporting us, but when I got home and opened the box the stinch literally took me out. The turkey wings were undercooked, the Mac n cheese tasted like vinegar, the collard greens were sweet and my husband’s pork chops were dusty and burnt?…Please make it make sense..nevermind don’t even waste your time trying too and don’t waste your time or money going there. I should have trusted the reviews and trusted the small voice in my soul, when I saw the “No Refund” sign. First and definitely my last. 2 meals $30 complete waste of money
I am sensitive to the trauma and mistreatment of our people. In this restaurant, they act like slave masters and make you wear slave muzzles (masks) even after the CDC said you didn't have to. I told her (the lighter skinned short heavyset women) that is was bad business to do her people like that. She laughed. I walked out and took my 100 plus dollars with me as I was there to place 8 orders. Will never go back in there again I went down to Martin's Soul Food which is about 5 to 10 minutes away. The owner was a nice Black man and welcomed me in. He had lots of customers too.
The chicken had bbq sauce poured over top of it...like a kid made it! The candies yams was mushy and tasteless! Potato salad was not cold and all!! Lady taking the orders needs a customer service skills course asap!!! This place can't get a another penny from me...never!!!
Everytime I tell myself to support a black business I get disappointed. The lady taking the order was just snappy and had an attitude. I wanted to walk away but in my head I told myself “maybe she’s having a bad day” (no excuse of course). I ordered chopped bbq large for my son and large catfish w/greens and mac&cheese for myself. The one roll that was in there was partially opened so had to throw that out. there was a paper towel in my food I’m assuming to soak up the grease from the fish but come on. The paper towel was all wet and soggy over the greens and mac&cheese. My son only received a small thing of bbq sauce for his bbq. But overall the food was ok. Just the service experience turned me off.
In the beach area shopping and my wife wanted Soul Food. Found this spot on Google & you know the rest!!! Baked BBQ Chicken, Yams & Mac....We shall be back!!!! ?
