New to the area and dropped by Donnie’s to check it out. Wanted to try the Brisket and Ribs, however a large group before me ordered all his ribs so I ordered brisket and meat candy (aka burnt ends). The brisket was moist and tender with good flavor. The burnt ends were cooked with a sweet sauce glaze and were good size random cuts - not machine cut or diced like I have found at some places. Both were enjoyed and I will return.
Just got my NC pulled pork sandwich, potato salad a few mins ago. Took one bite of the pulled pork and hands down the worst tasting BBQ I have ever had. I did not want this sandwich to go to waste so I gave it to my dog which will eat almost anything . The only reason I'm leaving a 2 star review instead of a one-star review is because the potato salad is extremely good and on point. Absolutely terrible BBQ I cannot express it enough. Store bought barbecue in the frozen section is a hundred times better than what I just experienced. I spent over $27 after tax and delivery fee for the worst BBQ I have ever tasted in my life. It did not even smell like traditional BBQ in the least bit. The vinegar Sauce that I ordered additionally tastes very weird I don't understand how a barbecue place could really mess up vinegar sauce and regular pulled pork North Carolina style BBQ I really do not understand. Basically I just spent $27 on potato salad. I would not recommend to anybody I will stick to going out to Bennett's Creek to get my BBQ from here on out.
Best BBQ food in all of VA Beach. Needed a break from NYC and ended up in VA Beach with family and friends. I Saw the big BBQ sign from Gen Booth Street and decided to give this place a try. Glad we did...the food was amazing. Had the tacos, ribs, brisket, meat candy and cornbread!! Will definitely visit again!!!
First time at Donnie's. The food was amazing and delicious. I got the "Meat Candy" which are burnt ends and they were by far the tastiest thing. I got Mac and Cheese and Baked Beans on the side and they both were really good. It came with cornbread as well and it was so wonderful. Definitely will be making a trip back. One of the best bbq places in the area.
I ate at Donnie's recently and didn't really care for it. The brisket was dry and was missing the flavorful crusty bark that any good brisket should have. I was confused because I could see a light smoke ring on the brisket but I could not taste or smell the smoke at all. The KC sweet pork was way too sweet and sauce completely overpowered the pork. The pork was also missing bits of crusty bark, did not have even a hint of smokiness, and was super soggy from the excessive amount of sauce. The mac n' cheese, corn bread, and sweet tea were pretty good. While I would probably never go back to this place again, the food was acceptable and I did eat everything on my plate.
Donnie's has without a doubt the best brisket I've ever had. Tender, juicy and flavorful it is absolutely delicious! The meat candy is on point with it's burnt ends and flavor. And the BBQ sundae, it's the best of the best. Donnie's BBQ will not disappoint!
Ordered my food and it was ready in less than 10 ! By the time I got there it was hot and ready! Great customer service, friendly staff and the Texas brisket sandwich was amazing! The coleslaw was great too!
Food was fantastic. The pulled pork sandwich was so delicious. The cornbread was moist and sweet. My husband had the brisket sandwich which was awesome. The service was wonderful. By far the best BBQ I have had in awhile. Definitely going back.
Donnie’s Southern Style BBQ is hands down one of the BEST local places to eat in all of Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach. Everything we ordered was delicious! The only problem was that we wanted to order EVERYTHING on the menu!This combat veteran and his Mrs. will definitely be back to support this veteran-owned business. I urge everyone to give this local business a try, you will NOT be disappointed!
Some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the #3 with brisket, North Carolina and Kansas City pork BBQ, Mac and Cheese, and Collard greens. The good food and friendly service is top notch!I’ll definitely be back.
