I was very much looking forward to visiting this new venue as I am from Puerto Rico and my family and I enjoy frequenting the original restaurant and eating authentic food, but was disappointed. A photo advertising the restaurant shows a water scene. This is not a waterfront establishment. The boardwalk is blocks away. When we received our food, we were surprised to see the fillings in both my husband and my mofongos were sauceless and dry--nothing like what we are used to in the original restaurant. De Rican Chef is known for their delicious mofongos, so this was completely unexpected. Needless to say we did not finish the mofongos because they were too dry. To top it off, there was a large group of inebriated guests screaming at each other in the back of the restaurant and it sounded like a fight was about to break out. They kept stumbling past our table, shouting back and forth, and this did not make for a pleasant dining experience during an early Sunday dinner, We could not hear each other, or the music, over their shouts. Our tab came with what they said was an automatic 18% surcharge, but it was actually a little over 20% and the server suggested we add more to the tip. While I will keep supporting the original restaurant, I am afraid I will not be returning to this location.
Delicious food at a reasonable price. I will happily return!
My husband and I both had fish. It was delicious but just a tad over cooked. Our drinks were tasty. The atmosphere on the back porch was fun.
Food was amazing! Service was great! Atmosphere was like being in PR. Loved everything
My food, fried pork mufungo was not good. Pork was over cooked and dry and hard. My companion had shrimp which was better because it was moist Would not recommend pork meal
I stumbled across this place a couple weeks ago and have been back a few times already. what a find! Food is delicious and great portions, I can never finish it all! Best mojito I've ever had but my favorite drink is the spicy margarita. You can taste the fresh lime. Service was great, like always! The atmosphere is Awsome too. We always end up cashing out at the table and sitting at the bar a little longer to have 1 last drink. We live down the street and will make this our new regular spot.
Such a cool atmosphere. Every employee was sharp and had a smile. The food was fantastic. Especially like the empanadas AND the octopus
Service was so friendly, attentive and just all around great. Everyone left happy with the food and service.
I really want to give this place 5 stars but I think they need a bit more time to figure out the flow of the restaurant. We came around 6:45 on a Saturday and were told it would be a 30 minute wait and we would be texted when the table was ready. After an hour of waiting we got a call saying “we’ve been texting you” but there was only one automated text that came through AS they were calling us. Lol. Anyway, we get seated. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic for the slow service but assured us the food was good. And she was right! We had many great cocktails while we waited that helped the wait go by. And we all loved our meals. Two of us had the carne frita mofongo, another had the pork shoulder trifongo, and another had the chicken milanese. Everything was amazing. The pork, the plantain, the beans, the milanese sauce… we also had empanadas for an appetizer which were great. I think this place is definitely worth visiting, but maybe in a month or two when they’ve gotten in more of a groove. In addition to the service being slow they were out of several items. So I would either give it some time, come early on a weekday, or just go on the weekend and expect to be patient. But overall awesome food and a fun vibe.
Been 3x so far, sat at the bar, and had great service, excellent food, and delicious drinks. Love the passionfruit margarita and passionfruit mojito!I’m very picky about my Cuban sandwich (I’m born/raised in Tampa), but can confirm, theirs is up there with the best. And it’s huge. My husband is obsessed with the empanadas. He’s tried all of them.
