Awful place. Ordered two chicken skewers and a side of mixed vegetables. The side was way bigger than the entree. When I called to complain about the portion size the man admitted that the restaurant had "decreased their chicken portions." This organization has decreased their portion size while charging the same price. NEVER going back here. Do not recommend to the consumer who wants a good bang for their buck.
I visited on a Thursday evening after remembering my positive experiences with the Falls Church branch. My pickup order was ready as promised within 30 minutes, and I was pleased with the prompt service when I arrived. My order consisted of felafel and spanakopita appetizers, a Plaka style Chicago gyro (lamb and beef with fries in the gyro), a side salad, a half chicken alone, and two orders of galaktoboureko for dessert. The phyllo pastry was light, crisp, and flaky while the filling tasted of spinach with the right amount of cheese to accent. The tzatziki sauce had a welcoming sharpness to accompany the crisp felafel fritters. A couple more fritters and a little more seasoning would have been nice, but overall I found these two offerings a great way to start. The gyro came as advertised with a pleasing proportion of meat to vegetables to fries without having to order extra of anything. The meat struck me as a little on the dry side but flavored well and not over salted. Fries were as crispy as a ten-minute car ride back home would allow and were not over salted either. The salad had crisp lettuce and fresh tasting other ingredients like the olives, cheese, and tomato. The chicken comes off the bone easily and has an acceptably seasoned taste, even if I did find the texture a bit dry similar to the lamb and beef in the gyro. Both offerings were enjoyable nonetheless. Dessert was another highlight, as the combination of flaky pastry, well-proportioned filling (looks less than you realize once you start eating), and not overly sweet honey syrup left me with a satisfied feeling overall. The prices strike me as reasonable for the Vienna area. Service was everything you want for a pickup order: cordial and efficient. A staff person taking orders kept me updated on where my order was in his list of takeout and dine-in orders. A few folks had takeout orders before me, and they were not waiting more than a few minutes if that for their food. The interior looked clean with a nice mural decorating the far wall as one enters. I am pleased to know that I can satisfy a Greek food craving with Plaka Grill convenient to my neighborhood.
Good service and quality of food, high prices. Vienna location comes with a premium. Gyros are solid, but unremarkable. Dine in location was clean
My husband and I love the Vienna location. The food is always hot, fresh, and delicious. Greek comfort food at reasonable prices, and the portion sizes always guarantee leftovers. I personally recommend the pork souvlaki and roasted potatoes. My husband loves their wraps and fries (their fries are damn good). I do recommend ordering online because they get very busy around standard meal times.
I’m Greek. My whole family is Greek. Our entire culture revolves around the joy of shopping for, preparing and eating food. I tend to stay away from Greek restaurants to avoid disappointment. Shopping for best ingredients takes time. Time is money so most restaurants are satisfied with “good enough.” Preparing food to order also takes time. Most customers raised on fast food aren’t willing to wait for the best so they get less than best.Plaka’s gyro is the best. Hands down. Perfectly cooked meat. Just the right amount of thick, well seasoned Tzatziki, ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce and onions inside a warm pita. Five stars. Get one now but be patient and don’t complain. If you want fast and cheap, go to Arbys and get what you deserve.
Been going here for years. It's just fantastic every time I go. All of their meats taste fresh, juicy, and flavorful. Plaka gyro is hands down the best gyro around.
Food is amazing ! I just got back from Athens and this is exactly as it is back there! So good !!!
I've been going to this place since it opened. The food is very good! I typically get the same thing every time I go. They have a very authentic Greek Pork Gyro, its excellent! Unfortunately the last time I went it was more expensive and half the size. It didn't come close to filling me up as it used to do. I understand times are tough, but either raise the price or make it smaller, not both.
I order Spanakopita. I was given 2 small portions for about $8.50. They were really greasy I couldn't even finish it. My friend's food looked good though but she spent she spent $24.
I’ve been to the other Plaka at Vienna many times, and only discovered this (closer) one when a friend moved nearby. Plaka has always been the best gyros I’ve had and basically Greek comfort food. The food at the falls church location is just as good as my previous go-to in Vienna and less crowded with the much larger space. The “Chicago style” Plaka gyro is my happy place.
