Dine in experience- 2/5It’s a self serve kind of place. Everything is served in ‘Use & Throw’ plates. Spoons and forks are all plastic one time usage ones. You have ti get the water on your own from a machine in a styrofoam glass. Even if the cooked food is 10/10, having to do self-serve and waste so much plastic defeats the purpose of dine-in and brings down the overall taste of the food. I had masala chai in styrofoam cup and it tasted yuck and I had no option but to trash it.Food Quality - 3/5I have had food at other Ammas kitchen restaurants in other US cities and if we compare that, this was a disappointing experience. I had onion masala dosa at this place and the onion inside was just raw, whereas I expected fried onions inside because that is how it was served in Cincinnati’s Ammas kitchen. Plus, food served with steel spoons, china plates and cups tastes much better than this self serve plastic plates and spoons. So 3/5Food Quantity - 3/5Again, comparison is with other Ammas kitchen restaurant. Dosa could’ve been slightly bigger here.Beverages - 2/5They don’t have filter coffee. In the name of masala chai, you’ll get vending machine quality tea.Parking was easily available, so that was plus one.
For a fast-food joint, Amma's kitchen is great. Now let's tap about over all food quality, it really lacks. South Indian food has certain taste requirements. Just wasn't there.
Tasty south Indian vegetarian food. Entrees, appetizers and sweets were pretty good. This place needs deep and through cleaning - floor, tables, and trash area were pretty dirty.
We checked this place when we were in DC for the Cherry blossoms. We did a pickup order for our dinner and it didn’t take a lot of time for the food to be ready by the time we arrived at the restaurant. The food quality was very good and the packaging was excellent. Saw quite a number of people enjoying their dinner and also an equal number of people waiting to get their order picked up.Wish the interior cleanliness of the place matched what was offered on the outside.
If you are vegetarian or not this is the place for you If you like fresh, great tasting food, and fantastic price this is the place for you. A must try!
Excellent idli and sambar. Tasty chole. Dosa is fine. Puris were oily. Take out service ready when promised.
Scrumptious meals and Thali (fixed menu for a full meal) options available. Delicious Indian sweets and snacks freshly cooked! My go to place every time I visit Vienna Virginia! Highly recommend!
This is my go to comfort food place. We often walk in during the weekdays for dinner for a quick meal.Consistent food and makes me feel like I am in my hometown.Their chole bhatura and onion rava dosa is the best.
They can definitely improve on sambhar which has flavour but not super tasty. The chutney was very sour for some reason. The dosa was between burnt and tasty. The aloo subzi or masala was mediocre to below average. But overall cleanliness and standardized presentation gets full marks. One of the better South Indian restaurants in DMV
Pure veg South Indian restaurant. South Indian food is great, they have a-lot of options to choose from. service is quick. Cheaper and better compare to other south Indian food restaurants in Nova and MD. Must try if you want to try vegan south Indian food.
