Upon arriving @ 5:45 pm to an empty restaurant we were greeted an asked if we had reservations and sat at out table. Within two minutes of sitting down we were asked how long we were going to be there. We asked the waitress to explain the menu to us because it was not first timer friendly. She began to tell us that only half the menu was available because the cook was hurt. Needless to say we got up and left. I can't comment on the food but the atmosphere was less than desirable.
Remarkable! The food isn't just good - it's AMAZING! I am a harsh restaurant critic - chefs fear me. I can be brutal, and instill blood curdling cries of agony from restaurateurs. So when I say this place is amazing, you should believe me. Above all, the braised pork belly appetizer was one of the most delicious and succulent things I have ever tasted. Everything was fresh, delicious, and well prepared. Generous portions as well. Highly recommended.
This should definitely be posted online somewhere, update your google hours, website… I definitely checked both. I really just drove 45 mins from Newport News for a quick lunch treat before work, because everyone raves about this place. And the day I can finally make time, so disappointed. Gas is definitely too high for this. Just wish this was posted online.
Had an appointment in the Suffolk area late afternoon. Searched for dinner and found Sushi AKA . Great location just off of main Street. Great atmosphere and super professional very knowledgeable staff. Started with excellent drinks. Must try the Pom Pom--best martini ever. That was just the start. The calamari was fresh homemade with a light tasty breading with a tang. The main course was awesome. I had the volcano bowl a sashimi,.rice and veggies with a tangy sauce. My bride had a special that included a salmon bowl. We will be back many times and strongly recommended to lovers of quality sushi.
Every time I go - best food, best atmosphere and best service! The Cowboy Roll is hands down the MOST AMAZING sushi roll I have ever had in my life! I could eat it every day! Also noteworthy and yummy options are house salad with their homemade dressing, miso soup, edamame, kani avocado, spring rolls, strawberry napoleon wonton, and their fabulous miso ice cream!
HANDS DOWN BEST SUSHI WE HAVE EVER HAD!!! My daughter and I placed a to go order, usually we go to Iron Chef but the last few times the selection has been limited and the quality has been subpar. So we opted to try Sushi aka. We placed out order said it would be about 40 minutes, when we arrived it was ready. The staff was exceptional, called me by name during our brief interaction and on my way out. The atmosphere was intimate and beautiful. Now the sushi itself was phenomenal! We got a couple of rolls and a salad, but ingredients were super fresh and high quality, perfect rice very fresh, presentation for to go was impressive. Also the only time I got take and had enough ginger, Wasabi, and dressing for my order. The use of fresh ingredients made for the most delicious sushi. Sushi aka is our new spot, and we look forward to trying out other items on the menu.
Incredibly awesome, our waitress was attentive and personal. Thank you Kristina, sorry if (ms). Mike the food was great! Check this spot out, you'll love it.
Trying nearly every sushi joint in the area, Sushi Aka is clearly the best sushi restaurant in Hampton Roads. For starters, Aka is one of few HR joints that can correctly label their pieces as sushi, sashimi, and rolls... I went with the sushi pieces mainly. I ordered the tuna, kenpachi, uni, smoked tako, and a specialty tuna roll: The Adam Bomb. Each piece I tried was unbelievably tender and fresh. The smoked flavor of the octopus worked so well. The chef saved the uni for last as it was the last in the restaurant; it did not disappoint. The waitstaff was extremely nice and visited us regularly asking if we needed anything. The whole team worked very well with limited staff and a busy dinner rush, not to mention a thunderstorm!I will definitely be visiting again soon.
Very good food and great service! Try the Bahn Mi ... pork belly!!
I do not know where to start.I have been to Japan many times, and I guess my expectation for sushi is too high for city of Suffolk. Drove 35 mins to get to the restaurant. Our kids had chicken teriyaki noodles, and we had sushi and sashimi platter. Some part of the noodles were uncooked, but i ate them anyway. The quality of sushi is Ok. Portion? absolutely ridiculous, barely anything. I would give three start for the decoration and how well they were able to match the plate color with the sushi, five star only for the wasabi. The best part of the dinner was the wasabi, which is sad, but it is what it is. Also on the menu chief special roll was spicy tuna? I thought that was funny. If you have high sushi expectation this is not the place. You will be disappointed. And not kids friendly at all. Don't even have a single high chair. If you want to eat sushi, please avoid and just go to sushi King.
