This course is a user friendly one. I like some things about it very much .... such as the greens that hold approach shots extremely well. There is a snack bar above the pro shop, and a tiny snack bar next to the 11th tee that opens in late morning during the prime golf season months. What else? The rates are quite reasonable. Course is walkable. However, since they do not restrict the hours when the course is carts-only during weekend mornings (as some courses do), if you are riding and following a 4some of walkers when the course is crowded, the pace of play can be pretty bad. Which is a huge drawback IMO. Most holes are fairly flat. The layout is strange in that two of the first 4 holes (2nd and 4th) are par threes, there are four straight par 4s (7th through 10th) .... all of which have big trouble right. Also, there are consecutive par 5s on the back 9 (13th and 14th). One more .... the back 9 has three par 3s, three par 4s, and three par 5s (which I actually like). One thing that keeps me from playing here more often is their policy .... which is still a rare one ... of not allowing ANY riding carts in the parking lot. I have huge shoulder problems concerning lifting, so that means I have to drop off my bag and the other assorted stuff (cell phone, snacks and drinks, bag, etc) at the bag drop, which is segregated from most of the parking places. Then go and park the car, change into golf shoes, walk all the way into the pro shop, pay, then get a cart and drive it back to the bag drop location. HASSLE!! Or do what I did today (9-28-14), double park the car and leave the flashers on near the bag drop, go and pay, then get the golf cart and load it up at the bag drop, THEN go park the car. While my stuff sits alone at the bag drop. A friend of mine had his clubs stolen once that way .... but it was in the NY area, not here in Virginia. Some key holes: the 5th, which has a tight landing area for one's tee shot, then an approach shot over a pond to a narrow green from front to back with a bunker also protecting the right front. One of the most challenging approach shots on a par 4 in all of SW Virginia IMHO. The 11th, a devilish uphill par 3. With a green that is not all that big to begin with, but is also the only 2-level green on the course!! Par here is like a birdie I think. 16th green is very steep. Try to avoid going past the flag. I think it is even better to be short of the green with a front flag than to have a downhill putt. One more oddity: the longest set of tees are ..... RED!! and the shortest set of tees are .... BLUE!!! Black is the 2nd longest set of tees .... 6000 yards. Somebody must have been drunk when they changed the color code of the tee markers last year ........ LOL
