Found this gem while passing through Richmond headed back home to Maryland. It is a small but cozy spot so a reservation is recommended.Everything that we had was savory. I had the short ribs and they were delicious. The grits with gouda cheese and the greens were amazing. I tried my son's grit cakes with grilled shrimp and that was very good. I recommend this gem. Oh, the server, Catalina never let my glass get more than half-way empty. Another young lady came to get our dishes immediately after we were done and I appreciate that so much. This will be where I will stop when I am in that area.

SG was phenomenal! We had a large party of 26 and EVERYONE enjoyed their meal and service. The staff went beyond expectations. The Entree presentation looked as good as it tasted. There were no details missed. The seating area was a little tight but they compensated us with an additional table. Overall our experience was superb! We will visit again.

Great dining experience. The food, atmosphere and service is top notch. They accommodated my request for a large dinner party on fairly short notice and everything was perfect. Highly recommend you visit the Savory Grain one of RVA’s hidden gems.

Visited Richmond, VA from NJ, and happened to stumble on Savory Grain while going for a walk. So happy I did. The dinner was outstanding, Live jazz music set the perfect mood, and the service was phenomenal. Can’t wait to visit again!

Food was very good, as was service. My husband had a chop and I had pasta primavera. Also good dessert. Cute, small place. The night we went they had a small jazz band.

Great atmosphere inside, but a lot of traffic noise sitting outside. The night we went for dinner, they had a saxophonist playing jazz music, which really adds to the ambiance. The only knock is that the space is small and the music drowned out any chance of having a conversation. The food was delicious and the drink selection is really good.

My friends and I had an amazing time at The Savory Grain! We ordered the mussels, pork belly, bacon wrapped jalapeños for appetizers. Shrimp n Grits with chorizo was delicious!!! The staff was friendly and attentive to our table. We’ll definitely be back again and would recommend our family and friends!

Such a cute place with a great atmosphere! The food was very good (like.. they make their own ketchup! & everything is locally sourced - fantastic.) Our server was wonderful also, 10/10 service.

I loved the ambiance; our waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed, though. We had a party of 4 and I didn't see her with much help Saturday night. Our food left quite a bit to be desired. My wife ended up sending her food back, and then when our waitress brought it back, she directed my wife on how to finish preparing it at the table. The spinach was undercooked, and the butter was cold to the touch... they were both supposed to be mixed into the noodles. My Brussel sprouts were undercooked, and our friend disassembled his burger to re-season it.We ended up going over to get Lee's chicken as soon as we left.

My sister and I went here for dinner on a Friday night and it was amazing! They have happy hour until 7 (I think) and it included $5 rails so we loved that. We tried the mussels appetizer and that was phenomenal and a pretty hefty serving which we appreciated. She ordered the steak and added a side of mac and cheese and I ordered the half chicken with and additional side of mashed potatoes and everything was delicious. Seriously some of the most flavorful food I've had in Richmond! Will definitely be back to try their brunch and dinner again
