Food was good overall. Place was dirty with rusty walls and webs on the ceilings. I can only imagine how the kitchen is.Also, the service wasn't tasteful to say the least. The lady at the counter wasn't rude but she was a very bad communicator, like she didn't even speak much to my questions. And I know this was not a language issue.
This is a small "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant that many describe as great take-out, which I am sure is true; but their lunch/dinner buffet IS fabulous! The buffet always has at least two or three rice styles to complement their four to six entrées. They do not add a lot of heat to their buffet cuisine but you can request spices to heat things up - if you're so inclined. They have fair selection of bottled drinks, even a couple of their specialized Indian drinks. If you're in the mood for Indian cuisine and in downtown Richmond you cannot do better than Spice of India - see you there.
I ordered through Uber Eats. I was surprised to see such a low rating on Google so I needed to rate it. The Lamb Shahi Korma had some nice heat and excellent flavor. The chili garlic naan was on point. The Chicken Hakeem was super flavorful. All portion sizes were standard for any delivery/takeout Indian place I've had in the past. I was surprised by how good this was as my favorite Indian place was Lemon Cuisine, but after this I may be ordering more from them in the future
We went there around 2 to get lunch here . They offer buffet but in the buffet displays there wasn’t even enough food for one person. All the utensils were empty and they wanted us to just eat whatever was left Over . The place was filthy disgusting and smell so bad . The staff not so nice . Tables were dirty too . I will never go back there again . Cleanliness is main thing for me if I am eating at a restaurant and at this place was zero .
It’s my first time in Richmond. I was so hungry, so I didn’t check the review of this restaurant. I walked in. I ordered Chicken biryani. It was terrible. The rice was too much wet and soft, and the chicken was not fresh. After 30 mint, I felt a bad pain in my stomach. It’s my first time and last time to eat in this terrible restaurant.
I ordered some Chicken Tikka Masala and naan for lunch. I did an on-line order and in the notes section I asked for it to be mild. I guess I should have said extremely mild because this stuff could take the rust off a bolt. Don't get me wrong, it is tasty, the naan is great but it is so spicy that it didn't matter how much rice I mixed it with (and they gave me a generous portion of rice) the spice was overwhelming. In fairness, the name of the restaurant is SPICE of India. Maybe if I had gotten the Butter Chicken I could have enjoyed it. I would order from them again but explaining that they should make it "extremely mild" and perhaps order something else.
My first experience with Spice of India was a delivery order I placed. Now that I see it on a map, it's in an area where I worked for many years. No doubt lunch is a very busy time here. The Malai Kofta, garlic naan and Basmati rice were all excellent. Packaging for delivery was simple and worked well. Hot things stayed hot on delivery, so opening the meal was a pleasure. I look forward to more from this eatery.
I love this place and having lived in India for awhile I really struggle to find that taste I miss. The Gobi Manchurian brings in flavors that were new to me but I don't think should be missed!
I want to give zero star. They should name the restaurant as spiceless of india. the food is terrible. In butter chicken they added a ton of sugar and served it. The biryani is just colored rice. They don’t even serve raitha with biryani. It’s not lemon rice it’s turmeric rice. Totally a horrible experience. Please don’t waste your money
The chicken is raw I ordered from DoorDash this is sad I ate a piece of chicken I hope I don’t get sick. Chicken tikka Masala this is very unfortunate. If I get sick Spice Of India I will need to be compensated. Will be in touch ???
