Friendly staff, delicious food. Between all of us, my friend got a burger and a side of fried shrimp, I ordered the dumplings and my other friend the macaroni and cheese egg rolls.Egg rolls -crispy, well stuffed. Ok, but we will probably try another appetizer next time.Dumplings - A+, super tasty dipping sauceBurger - Friend really liked it along with the shrimp. The bartender and our waitress were both awesome. We will definitely be back!
If this place was in DC or other bigger city it would have been packed on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. It speaks to Richmond's abundant shoreline that it wasn't. We sat outside steps from the canal walk, got great service, delicious appetizers and a broad selection of beverages. I liked that it was spread out and a wonderful way to pass a part of a summer day.
Service was good, despite being short staffed. The host who greeted us made us aware that it might be a little slow, but we weren't in any hurry, so were prepared for a longer wait time between ordering and eating. I was pleasantly surprised at the prompt service, and our server was attentive and pleasant. Food was delicious. We sat outside to eat. The area is beautiful, overlooking the canal walk. Just be aware that outdoor seating is noisy, with both vehicle and train traffic very close by.
Let me just say that I always love dining at Southern Railway Taphouse! I brought my family and friends there to celebrate my graduation. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating! They have a great affordable food selection and the atmosphere is lovely plus there is an arcade upstairs! I felt seen and heard as a guest and we were given a little parting gift! The service was outstanding and the staff was friendly very friendly.
We keep giving this place more chances because the location is great and they have outdoor, dog friendly seating. But the service and treatment of customers is just terrible. After this last time, we won't be going back and will stop recommending it. The restaurant inside is dirty, the outside area is not well kept.Yesterday the restaurant had 2 tables with customers - 1 table of 5 inside and 1 table of 4 outside. We arrived with 5 adults and 3 children and they kept us waiting up front giving an unnecessary, rude, and lengthy explanation for how parties of 8 should usually require a reservation. We offered to go somewhere if we were an inconvenience and they said no, that we were fine - especially since they were so slow. We could have easily been seated with drinks in hand in the time it took for her to lecture us.Drinks, not even water, ever showed up. After a while a staff member came up and said she could take drink orders only because there were too many other tickets being written up at that. Not only does this make no sense as a process - but also it was delivered in a rude way and again, there were maybe 3 other tables seated in the entire place at this point.Every time we've gone in the past we've at least managed to be served, but after waiting quite a while and with incorrect or missing orders. It's just not worth it to keep trying, and it's a shame because the location is great.
Visited here last weekend and had a fantastic time. I can't say enough about Cynthia!!! She completely saved the night. Some miscommunication between us and the restaurant which led to a little bit of a bumpy start but Cynthia handled everything like a boss!!!!! Turned the night around and everything from food to drinks was on point!! Thanks soooo much Cynthia, you were a rock star!!!
Fascinating place with a lovely, polite, professional staff. Great beer selection and a good, nothing too fancy menu of standard pub fare. We were visiting colleges, and two different servers and the manager stopped by to offer their experiences of Richmond and its schools. Apparently, the place turns into a dance club at night -- we were treated to a tour of it pre-chaos. We were looking for good food, good beer, nice
I am embarrassed for recommending and bringing my family and friends here and we won’t be returning. The food was pretty good but the drinks were not when both FINALLY came. The waitress (Ash) was extremely nice and friendly but the service was horrendous. Almost every single person’s at the table (party of 11, 5 adults and 6 children) either had something missing or wrong with their order. This ranged from unsweetened tea instead of sweet tea, missing mixed drinks, incorrect mixed drinks, missing side orders, hot wings for a child instead of honey barbecue just to name a few.The most upsetting things were we placed the Children’s orders first because they were really hungry and most of the Children’s food came AFTER the adults and we ordered things they wouldn’t eat. I also think the gratuity shouldn’t be automatically charged when over half of the table was children. THEN we were forced to pay a automatic service charge while using debit cards! I’ve never heard of this (maybe if it was credit) and the waitress refused to remove the charges). It’s almost Iike they know the service is bad so they make you pay upfront. They got over this time but as I mentioned we won’t be returning. This place has really fell off since the pandemic and there menu is very limited. Ash was sweet but her apologizing 13 times for errors is not enough for a return visit. Plenty of other restaurants to support I recommend you try a different one.
Visited RVA this past weekend and came to this restaurant on a random nice 60 degree. We chose this place because they are dog-friendly and we were traveling with our pup. When we arrived the staff was super friendly. They informed us that they were understaffed, but I think it was one of the Managers who took care of us. She did a great job for them to be so busy. Love how they bring dog bowls with ice, my pup loved it. The food was delicious - I highly recommend the chicken tacos. It was so good that we all came the next day for brunch. The French toast was amazing! Great prices, great service, and overall I definitely recommend!
Pretty fun spot. Turns into more of a club scene around 10.
