The meal I had at Rowland, I would rate as one of the top five meals I have had in Richmond in the past 20 years. I highly recvomend!
All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I dad the rockfish with mango which was tender and flavorful, my husband had the pecan encrusted pork chops that had a unique and delicious flavor. Our waiter was a little obtrusive, but overall pretty good.
Relatively small restaurant with excellent food. Casual atmosphere with plain surroundings, but the food is spectacular, as is the service. All of their dishes are unique and presented beautifully. Reservations are highly recommended and they only have street parking, so give yourself a little extra time for that.
Small space with very nice service. Duck confit and seafood chowder apps were very good. Entrees are delightful. Black rice was quite undercooked. Enjoyed peanut butter pie and apple crisp; Panna cotta was underwhelming.

The waitress must have been high on crack!? She didn’t understand our questions, blank stare - just kept repeating what she thought we were asking. It was awkward. I felt very uncomfortable. Her hands were shaking, she was totally distracted, made a drink at the bar for us and forgot half of the ingredients. So the sour cocktail was disgusting (unmixed egg whites on the bottom of the glass). Food was inconsistent - octopus was chewy AF, we left 80% of it on the plate. Branzini was amazing, and so were the desserts (flan and white chocolate bread pudding). I’m giving 3 stars…. But just so you know, 0 stars for service.
I just ate there for the first time and it was delicious. Our server was great and gave good food recommendations. The lamb sliders, pecan crusted pork chop, and bananas foster were all delicious. I left feeling full and satisfied with everything I tried there. The only negative thing to note- it was a little loud and we kept having to repeat ourselves to hear one another. That didn’t hurt my experience overall. Will definitely go back again.
Rowland!!!!! I can’t believe I’ve never been here before!!! Went last night for V-Day & it was spectacular!!! The food & drinks themselves were amazing, but what really made the evening was every employee went out of their way to speak to us, & have fun! They didn’t come over for “business”, asking how’s your meal etc. They would just stop at the table to chat for a couple minutes about something silly, something fun, something quirky, whatever!! Soo friendly & genuine!!! Just sheer perfection from beginning to end!!
Valentine's 2022 dinner reservations...$215.00 dinner for 2. This price included one alcoholic drink each for me and my lady, a couple random hunks of tasty fresh bread with roasted garlic oil to dip in( so far so good) an appetizer each (lady was happy with her oysters, my ravioli was good but the duck "confit" was dry and tough), one entree apiece (my girls rockfish was good but she kept finding shell pieces in the bluefin crab topping and my medium well ribeye was bleeding and had a handful of pomme frites that were barely more appetizing than the shoestring potatoes that come in a cardboard can at the grocery store) a decent dessert each and a $35.00 gratuity for the waiter who did very little to earn it. Not normally a public complainer but for the price and occasion (you know...people trying to celebrate and thoroughly enjoy an evening out together in this busy world spending their hard earned money) it seemed they could have put in a bit more effort and care towards the people they were serving tonight. We were very excited to be going and left very disappointed. $100 for the experience we had would've been too much, but live and learn. Probably will not recommend this establishment to anyone or spend my money here again (even if its better on a normal night). You all were supposed to help make our night a little more special and almost entirely dropped the ball. On a brighter note one of the other servers named Alex was very personable and pleasant so there's always that.
Wish I could remember the dish names ... steak: med rare with a crunchy crust - perfect, and specialty fish - yummilicous. Wonderful, dare I say, pre-Covid level of service. So refreshing. Warm and cozy spot on the southern boundary of the Fan. Dining there is a pleasure.
