Looking for a 6th star to add to my Google review because this place needs to be ranked above all the rest. After moving away from Richmond for 5 years we were happy to find out this place is still as amazing as we remember. Sweet or savory you can’t go wrong. Staff is always genuinely friendly and patient while you decide which delicious pies to order.
We headed to proper pie because we love pie. It helped to have a local here - take orders online starting at 10 then you pick it up. Steak and cheese, pork, and sausage roll were all fantastic savory pies. Filling was incredible and the crust excellent. Great ratio too for those following along. The strawberry rhubarb pie was awesome and a highlight, the chocolate pecan was great too . I got a full apple pie to take home and it's gone now....so you be the judge.
This place is a Richmond must. They offer sweet and savory pies. You can get a single slice or the whole thing. I recommend ordering ahead online. When you arrive to pick up there will likely be a line but it moves very quickly. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We ordered a strawberry cream pie and a blueberry apple. Both were amazing (and huge!). The pies are perfect to bring to a summer cookout. Haven't had the chance to try the savory pies yet but looking forward to it on our next visit.
I’m not really much of a pie person but this place my goodness is really really delicious! We ordered the Banana Cream, Dutch Apple, Blueberry Lemon, and the Pork & Sausage Gumbo. This place does not go stingy with their fillings. Our personal favorite was the Banana Cream. The only reason why I took off a star was because there was hair in our pie (see pic). If it wasn’t for the hair issue, it’s a 5 star.We will definitely be visiting again. ?
Great food! Steak and Guinness pie was outstanding! The strawberry rhubarb pie fell a bit flat. I kind of expected a bit more. Personal preference and all. Don't get me wrong! It was good! It just tasted more like a tart strawberry pie than a true strawberry rhubarb.We try to think globally but eat and drink locally! Thanks for being fantastic Proper Pie Co.
Great pies and friendly service! Very easy to order and quick pick up. Order early in the day because some pies sell out. I had the vegan ricotta and mushroom and it was delicious- did not taste vegan!
I want to live above this pie shop for the rest of my life. They get flakes in the vegan pastry! Both sweet and savory are fantastic (blackberry peach cobbler is a favorite) however it would be cool if there was a vegan savory option that was just dairy free- meat but no butter/milk. Totally understand why there isn't, but worth a shot. *Go here*
Highly recommend the blackberry buttermilk sweet pie and in the savory hand pies I liked the sausage roll and the mince pie. Fyi, hand pies use puff pastry which helps interior stay hot for a long time. Will definitely return when in Richmond again.
Worth the wait in line out in the cold. Delicious homemade pies. Sweet & Savory options. Friendliest staff. I had one bite of the chocolate pecan pie- it is pure Heaven on Earth. #RVA get here!
I ordered 9 pies in only two visits. Most were individual and savory (pork, beef, chicken, vegan, sausage roll) and crazy tasty, filling. The whole lemon chess was too good to take only one slice at a time. They are not only yummy pies, they are very beautiful too. I placed order online at 10a, picked up around noon with zero wait time and a cheerful dispatcher. What's not to love.
